MLB Chatter 2008

My God, Clay Buchholz sucks.

At least he's predictable. Whenever he pitches, he blows a lead.

Ha ha, true.

The problem with Buchholz isn't so much stuff, as is location. His curveball and changeup are great, but his fastball is average, and it seems like whenever he makes a mistake with it, it is destroyed. They sent him down to AAA to work specifically on his fastball command, and at that level, he had it working. I think he will be a very good MLB pitcher one day, he just needs to gain command.

I mean look at Lester of 06. Same deal, good stuff, shitty location. Now, he is able to locate his pitches with pin point accuracy, and he is currently one of the top left handers in the AL.

^ Yeah, but Buchholz has no place in the rotation with a pennant race on the line, especially if he's giving up three homers and gets pulled in the 4th inning. His ERA is probably up there with Mike Timlin's.

Slipping to 4.5 games out of first with a slim 1 game wild card lead is not where you want to me in the middle of August.

I hope Colon will finish his rehab assignment soon and be able to take Buchholz's spot.

On the bright side, the hitting remains strong post-Manny, so there is the chance of recovery and maybe barely hanging onto the wild card spot to squeak into the postseason. I think New York and Chicago will be less of a factor as the month goes on due to injuries. The Rays don't look like they're ready to slow down.

True, this is no time for the Clay Buchholz show, but I'm just saying in the future...

Colon evidently had a good rehab start today so thats good. I am pretty damn sure the Red Sox are making the post season, and I am equally sure the Red Sox are winning the AL East. The schedule for Tampa Bay in Sept is FUCKING BRUTAL, and it's mostly on the road. Yes they are winning on the road now, but its Seattle, the worst team in the league. As much as I would like for them to win the series against the Rays, its not gonna happen. Last year taught me a lot about calling the season a marathon. Look at the Yanks last year, 14 GB, to 2 GB by the end of the season. 4.5 at the beginning of August isn't the best situation in the world, but a team like the Sox with the talent they have can make a run at any time, especially with the remaining schedule they have, one that has the majority of games at home.

Ah, the Angels....fucking sweet!:techman:

The Red Sox thank you for your generosity. Now, when you play the Rays again, please do the same thing.

I've seen teams collapse before, but the Dodgers bungling away the lead and the game to the Giants in the bottom of the ninth was a sight to behold.

Jamie Moyer pushing aside the ump as he headed to second on his error-filled sacrafice bunt is probably one of the funniest things I've seen.

After having a perfect game thrown against them for the first six innings, the Sox rally due to JD Freaking Drew, and Commander Kick Ass of the Fuck Yeah Brigade (Josh Beckett). Excellent 5-1 win tonight. Yanks 9.0 GB....it warms the heart.

A much-needed win for the Sox tonight. Hopefully they can rock the home series and gain on the Rays. I'm a little concerned that the rotation will be a bit thin with Wake going on the DL and Buchholz being what he is, but Colon should be ready to plug the hole pretty soon.

The Sox bullpen is much improved over the last couple of weeks, which is some *very* good news. And has Bay hit in every game he's had with the Sox so far?

I think he had one 0-4 night, but other then that yes.

I swear, the Sox are the only organization strange enough to have one knuckleballer go on the DL, only to replace him with...another knuckleballer. I can't wait to see how Charlie Zink does tomorrow. Should be interesting to watch.

Yeah, the rotation is a concern right now, but better now then September. Colon had a good rehab start the other day so hopefully he will be able to take Buchholz spot soon, and the let the kid go down to AAA to work on a few things.

What the hell?

Adam Dunn just got traded.

Chaos, unfortunately for you and me he was traded to us.

Well, he does have a high OBP and hits a lot of dingers. The strikeouts are a concern, but a team like the Diamondbacks need some power to compete, especially since LA got Manny.

Nice to see the Twins back on top in the AL Central. They only stayed on top for about a day the last time they were in first, but I'm hoping they can hand it to the Yankees and stay there a while. After their debacle playing in New York earlier this season, it'd be great to see them get a little payback at the Dome.

Red Sox got Paul Byrd for a PTBNL. Hard to judge until you see what they gave up, but could be a good stopgap, as he only needs to be an average pitcher to help prop up the back of the rotation with Wakefield down and Buchholz having rookie sucking issues at the moment. On the plus side, Byrd has been very good over his past 5 or so starts, and getting a win while pitching for the Indians is a heck of a trick, lately...

Huh, the Sox pick up Paul Byrd for a PTBNL. I like it, little risk, and he can be a good pitcher when he is on. A good stopgap measure by Theo and the guys.
