MLB Chatter 2008

Ack. The day after the Yanks' dramatic win over the Angels and now Joba's hurt. It's just one damn thing after the other. Hey - they still have that sterling ace, Rasner.

The worst thing about the Joba story is that he is being sent to the Grim Reaper aka Dr. James Andrews. I heard that if you wanna scare a pitcher tell him to say that name 3 times in front of a mirror in a bathroom with the lights off. Rumor has it that Mike Hampton did it on a dare and we all know what happened to him.

Well, tonight they said Joba has 'rotator cuff tendonitis'. They're telling him to relax for a week, then starting throwing exercises. It looks like his case isn't as serious as we feared (no word on surgery, like what's going down with Posada). Hope so.

Well if Joba goes down for an extended period of time (and I mean longer then the 15 Day DL), the Yanks are done I believe. As much as I think he is a little punk, I don't like seeing players get hurt.

Congratulations to Bucs pitcher Jeff Karstens for a brilliant pitching performance today in Arizona. Karstens took a perfect game into the 8th inning and finished with a two-hit complete game shutout. Great job!
:bolian:

(The Pirates have never had a perfect game in their history, though Harvey Haddix carried a perfect game into the 13th against the Milwaukee Braves before losing the game.)

Well, you might be right about a season killer although even Yankee haters have to admit they never quit and just keep scrapping. They finally got a win over the Rangers tonight. I'd love to see them split the series tomorrow.

Another fine performance from the Sox today. Wake pitched very efficiently, Bay continued to hit well, and Ellsbury seems to be coming out of his slump at just the right time. Plus, the bullpen remained strong.

It's really looking like the Sox are rejuvenated now. However, TB isn't letting us gain any ground. Man, the Indians choked badly tonight...6 runs in the bottom of the 9th?!

I'll take a split if I have to. If they happen to lose tomorrow, they still take the season series.

Nice to see Ponson on the mound and sober at the same time.

I know. I mean really, the Indians went from a game away from the World Series, to pure absolute shit this year. It's incredible.:wtf:

Regarding Bay's scorching start with the Sox, that's got to be in large measure due to being on a proven winner instead of the Pirates. Then again, often times these interleague transfers start out well and then drop off as the league gets used to "the new guy".

Well, I think it's time for my favorite beer:

The first drink is for Edwar Ramirez.

Cheers!

I didn't watch the whole game, but I did see the play where Juan Rivera made the Yankees look really stupid and that is always a good thing. :techman:

I swear I'm going to base that monkey's head in with a Barry Bonds-sized baseball bat one of these days.

I was watching it on gameday, and they came into the inning tied 3-3. I went away for a few minutes, come back, and its 11-3!

HAHAHAHAHA!:guffaw::guffaw::techman:

Say what you will about Barry Bonds (I know I have), but he certainly knows how to stoke the Giants faithful by calling out Joe Torre and the Dodgers when he was given the chance to speak at tonight's ceremony honoring San Francisco's past outfielders.

Nice to see the Sox continuing to be strong. I'm sorry to see Contreras' blown Achilles' tendon, but not so sorry to see the Yanks get lit up by the Angels.

Now I was hoping the Rays would drop one tonight to the Mariners, but that's not looking likely. Boy, Seattle is one bad ball club.

I'm very worried about tomorrow's Sox game, however. Buchholz has just been terrible lately...poor command and not attacking the zone.

What did Bonds say?

Something about wishing he could play again with the Dodgers right there in the visiting dugout and claiming that he beat Torre before and he can beat him again. I must have missed all those recent Giants vs. Yankees games.
