MLB Chatter 2008

Well thankfully, the Sox have their ace on the mound tonight in Jon Lester.

I thought your ace was some dude named Beckett?

Well, when it comes to the playoffs, and lining up the rotations, and setting things up, Beckett is technically the ace. But this year, Lester is having a much better year, and has been the stopper, while Beckett is struggling some, so I have given the temporary ace title to Lester. Hopefully Beckett figures out whats off, and gets back to his dominant self, so the Sox will have a 1 and 1A.

Dear Halos

WTF is this?

Even we know you can't give these guys extra outs. We thought you knew how to play defense.

Sincerely
The National League

Man, it looks like the Sox gave the Angels a little of their pre Jason Bay mojo...

Its a simple game, you catch the ball, you throw the ball, you hit the ball. WTF happened Angels?

And the Tigers too? Walking in the winning run? No help here guys?

Atleast Dice-K had another strong outing today, and Bay continued to hit well.

I dunno what happened to the Angels but it was glorious. I thought the Yankees might be looking at a rout after Rasner's poor start but wow - what an exciting see-saw game!

I was really surprised - and delighted of course - at all the errors, especially the double steal on the Halos and the ball thrown away at 3rd base. Lady Luck was in good mood in the Bronx today.

Question for Angels fans - was this just an off day for the bullpen? All teams have unexpected pitching meltdowns - (look at Petitte the other night - ack) and I wondered if middle relief is always iffy with the Halos or was today an anomaly?

Arredondo and Shields are both having good years.

I think it was a bad day, combined with some terrible defense.

And Manny is playing like a demon:

Manny Ramirez hit his second home run in as many days and drove in three runs to lead the Dodgers to a 9-3 victory today over the first-place Arizona Diamondback... Ramirez was four for five with a double and two runs, making his eight for 13 in his three games with his new club. He had four hits in a game for the first time this season.

^ But Manny isn't even in the AL any more, so...? ;)

If you think that's making the Red Sox fans unhappy, I think not. Bay is contributing nicely and the club seems to be much more cohesive with Dreadlocks gone.

Some really nice work this weekend from Lowrie. I'd like to see him completely replace Lugo as SS.

I never want to see Lugo at short again. Lowrie, I hope, has shown enough to steal the job from him.

And the comparisons of Bay and Manny are gonna continue throughout the season. One cannot compare the two in their respective teams. One has to compare what Bay does, compared to what Manny would do on the Sox, not the Dodgers. I'm sure on the Dodgers, he will give 110%, because he wants to make an impression, and he wants a new, big contract. On the Sox however, we all know that the organization was not sure he would give it his all. If they ran into a bump in the road, he might shut it down, and that was the main reason they couldn't trust him, and why they got rid of him. It was all about wether or not he could be trusted down the stretch drive, not his ability as a hitter.

The Sox know Bay will give 110% for the team, and his teammates can trust him. While Manny may have better numbers for the Dodgers at the end of the year, he may have not had those numbers for the Sox.

I've been hanging in there, but I officially give up on the Braves today. They're just making wild transactions in the dark now. They have an inexperienced back up catcher even though McCann is just coming off an injury. WTF? At 10 games back with three teams over them and far far back from the wild card, Go Cubbies.

So I'm amused that he's decided to play like the Manny who drove the Yankees crazy. Have to wonder how long that's going to last if he starts being a headcase again. I also think Bay is a terrific addition to the Sox - damn it.

Well, the Sox missed an opportunity to gain some ground on TB and widen the lead over NY due to Buchholz's continuing problems (has he won anything lately?). What's Colon's ETA from his rehab assignment? I'd like to see him take over Buchholz's spot in the rotation for a bit.

On the bright side, our mid-relievers were solid tonight. Maybe the bullpen is finally starting to find some rhythm with Mannywatch over.

One of the more interesting stats from tonight's Dbacks game....

In one half inning. 6 runs on 4 hits. Ouch.

Ack. The day after the Yanks' dramatic win over the Angels and now Joba's hurt. It's just one damn thing after the other. Hey - they still have that sterling ace, Rasner.

Another win for the Sox tonight, and Bay continues to rake 4-5 with two doubles and 2 RBI. Beckett looked better, and so did the bullpen.

And the Yankees loose again. Life is grand.
