Apparently this was something the Edmonton Oilers broadcaster said during his game Saturday: "The Blue Jays have just won the World Series." Then he had to correct himself a few seconds later.

Jack Flaherty exercises his player option and will stay with Detroit next year for a mere $20 million. This is a rare move. Players usually opt out when they can make more. The only ones who decline the opt out had terrible seasons and their teams have no option to opt out. He must really like it in Detroit.

The Padres promote from within, Craig Stammen is the new manager. He was a reliever with them, then joined the front office, and was actually interviewing other candidates for the job.

Tell me you have no plans to compete, without telling me.

He's actually the Moneyball guy who worked with Billy Beane. Jonah Hill played him in the movie but he didn't like how he was depicted so they had to change the name.

So he goes to the NFL, takes part in the worst trade in sports history, now comes back to the MLB.

I finally got the time to watch Who Killed the Montreal Expos? and I greatly enjoyed it.

I knew some of the pieces, like the incredible '94 team that was killed by the strike, the subsequent fire sale, Alou's unfair firing, broadly the money issues, and MLB owning the team before the move, but I never really put them altogether. But there were also a lot of details I never knew about such as the messy ownerships, the struggle to get a new stadium, and Canada's long history with baseball in general and how that history produced such a passionate fanbase in Montreal.

Also, David Samson is an arrogant asshole, both then and now. Holy shit.

13 players have been tendered $22 million qualifying offers. They have until Nov. 18 to accept or reject this one-year deal. The offer is set by averaging the top 125 salaries, also gives the team compensation draft picks when the players sign elsewhere.

Kyle Tucker, Bo Bichette, Framber Valdez, Dylan Cease, Ranger Suarez, Edwin Diaz, Gleyber Torres, Brandon Woodruff, Zac Gallen, Shota Imanaga, Michael King, Trent Grisham.

Anyone old enough to remember when people lost their minds over Gil Meche getting $11 million per year?
