MLB 2025: The A's are Playing Where Now?

Ryne Sandberg has passed away from cancer at the age of 65.

The next notable trade is 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes to the Reds for reliever Taylor Rogers and infield prospect Sammy Stafura. Not that this is a big trade, but Hayes is a recognizable name because the cheapskate Pirates inexplicably gave him one of those giant early bird contracts after his second season and it hasn't panned out.

There's some guy over in r/Buccos on Reddit who's been loudly agitating for the Pirates to trade Hayes since opening day (at one point someone flat-out asked the guy "Dude, I think he's overrated too, but why the hate? Did he bang your mom?"). I hope he's found a measure of peace with this trade. :p

A lot of MLB TV games have been free on Amazon yesterday and today. Something going on?

The Giants trade reliever Tyler Rogers, who happens to be Taylor Rogers' identical twin, to the Mets for a seemingly high prospect haul.

Yankees get closer David Bednar from the Pirates in exchange for some scratch-off tickets and a day-old Chalupa AAA catcher Rafael Flores and two other prospects.

All my closers in my fantasy league are worthless now after being traded to teams with closers.

He's going to play third base for Houston too, a position he's played zero games at in the majors.

Padres got 1B Ryan O'Hearn and OF Ramon Laureano from Baltimore.

Mets get OF Cedric Mullins from Baltimore.

Tigers get closer Kyle Finnegan from Washington.

Rangers get starting pitcher Merrill Kelly from Arizona.

Cubs get utility man Willi Castro from Minnesota.

Say what you will about three wild card spots per league, but it means more teams are still in it, meaning late-season team activity, meaning late-season fan engagement.

There is still hope for joy in Mudville until mighty Casey...

Royals trade rookie pitcher Evan Sisk* and minor league first baseman Callan Moss to Pittsburgh for starting pitcher Bailey Falter.

*Sisk was up in April and May and made five appearances, pitching a total of 5.1 innings, but until the trade he was actually back down at AAA again.

This felt like a crazy deadline. I don't remember other deadlines being this active, but this was a great day of trades.

Only the Pirates could take a 15-6 lead against the Rockies and end up losing 16-17.

I didn't watch them but it sounded like the Pirates game and the Yankees game were wiild. Marlins also came back and walked it off. Seems like not a good first impression was made with Doval, Bednar and Yankees fans.

Graphic on the TV screen says the best teams in the past 30 games are the Brewers, Blue Jays, Red Sox and Marlins.
