MLB 2025: The A's are Playing Where Now?

Ryne Sandberg has passed away from cancer at the age of 65.

The next notable trade is 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes to the Reds for reliever Taylor Rogers and infield prospect Sammy Stafura. Not that this is a big trade, but Hayes is a recognizable name because the cheapskate Pirates inexplicably gave him one of those giant early bird contracts after his second season and it hasn't panned out.

There's some guy over in r/Buccos on Reddit who's been loudly agitating for the Pirates to trade Hayes since opening day (at one point someone flat-out asked the guy "Dude, I think he's overrated too, but why the hate? Did he bang your mom?"). I hope he's found a measure of peace with this trade. :p

The Giants trade reliever Tyler Rogers, who happens to be Taylor Rogers' identical twin, to the Mets for a seemingly high prospect haul.

Yankees get closer David Bednar from the Pirates in exchange for some scratch-off tickets and a day-old Chalupa AAA catcher Rafael Flores and two other prospects.

Padres got 1B Ryan O'Hearn and OF Ramon Laureano from Baltimore.

Mets get OF Cedric Mullins from Baltimore.

Tigers get closer Kyle Finnegan from Washington.

Rangers get starting pitcher Merrill Kelly from Arizona.

Cubs get utility man Willi Castro from Minnesota.

Say what you will about three wild card spots per league, but it means more teams are still in it, meaning late-season team activity, meaning late-season fan engagement.

Royals trade rookie pitcher Evan Sisk* and minor league first baseman Callan Moss to Pittsburgh for starting pitcher Bailey Falter.

*Sisk was up in April and May and made five appearances, pitching a total of 5.1 innings, but until the trade he was actually back down at AAA again.

This felt like a crazy deadline. I don't remember other deadlines being this active, but this was a great day of trades.
