MLB 2022 Season: Houston Warship: Go Phuck Yourselves

JT Realmuto with the game winning HR. I was in a casino when that happened and it got loud. I'm glad it won't be a Houston sweep. I put money on Phils in 6 so off to a good start so far.

Whether they sweep or it's a 4-1 victory, I'd love for them to be at home when they win it.

Either way, the city's gonna go nuts, greased light poles be damned.

Hey, my ex-wife had to talk me out of going back home to Chicago when the Cubs won in 2016. I fully embrace the idea of Philadelphia becoming the fifth circle of Hell for two or three days.

What was the last time a team moved in baseball? I don't think it has happened in my lifetime (unless it happened when I was a wee lad). A bunch of expansions but no teams moving. My educated guess is the Giants but I wouldn't be surprised if I'm wrong on that.

Montreal Expos.

Washington Senators 2.0 before that.

Seattle Pilots before that.

Kansas City A's before that.

I thought the Angels had moved, but they just kept changing their name (Los Angeles --> California --> Anaheim --> Los Angeles); they've been in the same stadium since 1966.

Manfred doesn't think the new stadium in Oakland is going to happen, which means Las Vegas A's, here we come.

Really, the Giants just need to pull their heads out of their asses and give up the territorial rights that were gifted to them by the A's when they were in their own fight to get Pac Bell / Oracle Park built. There's a goddamn lease agreement that was signed and private financing was lined up.

Oh, gods, that's embarrassing. Forgot all about the Expos/Nationals! :o

Stupid brain!

They just like confusing people! ;)

The only team that's moved cities in our lifetime was the Expos moving to Washington and becoming the Nationals. Otherwise, all the moves happened between the mid '50s and early '70s.

1953: Boston Braves move to Milwaukee
1954: St. Louis Browns become Baltimore Orioles
1955: Philadelphia Athletics move to Kansas City
1958: New York Giants move to San Francisco, Brooklyn Dodgers move to Los Angeles
1961: Washington Senators become Minnesota Twins, new Senators created as an expansion team
1966: Milwaukee Braves move to Atlanta
1968: Kansas City Athletics move to Oakland
1970: Seattle Pilots become Milwaukee Brewers
1972: Washington Senators 2.0 become Texas Rangers
2005: Montreal Expos become Washington Nationals

So not only did I brainfart the Expos/Nats, I was waaaay off with my Giants guess.
To be fair, I often forget that they moved out west the same time as the Dodgers; I think the Dodgers' move gets highlighted more because it came so close on the heels of them finally winning a World Series, the dramatic imagery of the wrecking ball painted like a baseball demolishing Ebbets Field, and the psychological blow to Brooklyn. (Not to mention it gets so much attention in Ken Burns' Baseball, and even becomes a plot point in Field of Dreams.)
