MLB 2022 Season: Houston Warship: Go Phuck Yourselves

"As part of the negotiations for the 2022-26 collective bargaining agreement (CBA) during the lockout this past offseason, the Players Association (MLBPA) agreed to give MLB commissioner Rob Manfred the power to set the trade deadline for any day between July 28-Aug. 2."

Looks like Juan Soto is heading to the Padres along with Josh Bell in exchange for C.J. Abrams, Robert Hassell III, James Wood, and Jarlin Susana. I've never heard of any of those four so I assume they're all prospects.

Abrams is a utility guy who's looked completely overmatched by major-league pitching this year. Hassell is a top-25-ish outfield prospects. The other two are lottery tickets.

Pretty shitty return for Soto and Bell.

Edit: The Nats are also taking on Hosmer's contract. Mets and Yankees fans have a pretty valid reason to riot right now.

With Darth Hader and Soto, the Pads should win out the rest of this season

Not sure what the Brewhahas were thinking, letting Hader go at all.

The Atlanta Braves have signed star third baseman Austin Riley to a 10-year, $212 million contract, the most lucrative deal in team history and a surprise given he had three additional seasons under club control.

Padres are trying like crazy to move Hosmer and/or Myers to stay under the $230 million first tax threshold.

Am I the only person who thought giving Hosmer $20 million+ per season was an obviously bad idea from the start? Rendon and Semien getting that money and then flopping is one thing, but Hosmer was never at that level to begin with.

Yankees trade Joey Gallo to Dodgers for a prospect.

Eric Hosmer to the Red Sox, with the Padres eating most of his salary.

Twinkies traded 4 prospects for Orioles closer Jorge Lopez. Jays added a couple of relievers from Miami.

The Cardinals acquire Jose Quintana, who BTW was washed up in 2017 when the Cubs got him.

Reds trade Brandon Drury to the Padres.

Reds trade SP Tyler Mahle to the Twins.

Cubs trade RP David Robertson to the Phillies.

The final Soto deal is now him and Bell for Luke Voit, C.J. Abrams, Robert Hassell III, James Wood, Jarlin Susan, and MacKenzie Gore.

Royals trade Whit Merrifield, who can't play in Canada because he's not vaccinated, to the Blue Jays.......

If he's not vaccinated right now, he'll likely be ineligible until September if he starts the getting the vaccines today.

Padres are eating pretty much all the money still owed Eric Hosmer. They are sending $44 million to Boston.

I wonder if the haul for Soto was kinda meh because he's not signing a long-term deal with San Diego. I think Scott Boras wants to get him to free agency (and I can't say I blame him).

Still, really love this for the Padres. And I'm glad he went there instead of the Yankees or Cardinals.
