Word is that the Red Sox are looking to shop Mookie Betts and decline JD Martinez's option, because despite being a billion-dollar franchise that prints money hand over fist and is a year removed from a World Series, of fucking course they want to slash payroll.
Can't stop greed either. Can’t stop stupid.
The Rockies have now said that they "lack payroll flexibility" this offseason, despite having made the NLDS last year and having a current payroll of $156MM, more than $50MM below the luxury tax threshold.

Isn’t it about time for a new CBA? Usually the time teams start crying poverty.
The current CBA runs through 2021.
This is just the owners using the luxury tax exactly as they intended it to be: As a soft salary cap.
Nationals stage a late comeback to take down the Brewers.
Good.
Go fuck yourselves, Braun and Hader.
The more I think about it, the more I hope Epstein doesn't go with a comfortable choice, like David Ross for manager.
Ross would be an amazing bench or hitting coach under Joe Girardi. Ross can definitely convey what he wants done to the players, but Joe would be the firm-hand manager who would pull a guy like Baez when he starts falling back into bad habits again.
Before Javy's thumb injury, I felt like he needed a day or two out of the lineup to get his head on straight, but Maddon isn't the type of manager to do that. Trying too hard to be everybody's buddy.
Epstein has already said that Ross, Mark Loretta and Will Venable will be interviewed, but they haven't contacted external candidates yet.
I imagine if the Ricketts are pleading poverty, they won't be spending five million dollars a year on a manager.
Yea...another home run derby....
