MLB 2017: The Yankees are dead, Yankees burn in hell

The explanation is they didn't want to punish the team by suspending Gurriel during the World Series.

It's not a great explanation. Gurriel probably won't care about missing a few games in the 2018 regular season. Make him miss the rest of the World Series, though, that'd probably teach him a lesson.

That's a cop-out explanation, though. Manfred might as well have just gone to a podium and said, "We take this seriously, but not seriously enough to affect the World Series, just some meaningless games in April that no one will care about," and it's particularly galling considering he had the balls to say that Gurriel's behavior "has no place in our game." It's a bush league, "benched for one quarter against a scrub team in football" punishment.

Edit: I feel like leaving a voicemail at the league office tonight and asking, "Can you please explain the standard for exactly how racist you have to be to get suspended in the World Series?"

Supposedly the other reason why they held back is because Gurriel was "remorseful," etc. Which, really, is an even bigger cop out.

I didn't even see the gesture when it happened and didn't know it occurred until my phone was hit with notifications about it this afternoon.

It wasn't just the gesture, it's that he was also very clearly saying "chinito," which in Spanish-speaking cultures is about as nasty a slur as dropping the n-word.

Damn. I hadn't heard about that (I haven't had the chance to read anything beyond the headlines). That's pretty damn bad.

LA's bats really woke up at the end of game 4. Series tied 2-2; Kershaw and Keuchel again tomorrow!

The first half was one hell of a pitching duel, too. Wood had a no-hitter through five and two thirds (further than any other pitcher in franchise history in the World Series), before he gave up the home run. Plus, Dodgers pitching had a one-hitter until the ninth-inning home run off of Jansen. I expect tomorrow's pitching will be just as hot.

Honestly, I didn't see this as that big a deal. Is everyone overreacting?

Overreacting?

What would happen to any one of us if we did that to a co-worker?

Would our boss say "I'm going to suspend you for a week without pay. But not until after the holiday rush. We're going to be really busy until then."

True. But I think that is over the top too.

Dave Martinez definitely looks like the Nationals next manager.

I hate to see him leave the Cubs, but I can't think of anyone more deserving of a shot.

Completely agree w/ all of these points. Gurriel should have been suspended for the remainder of the postseason. Manfred (as usual) missed the boat on this one.

And continue to pile up.

I hope everyone is watching this game because it's crazier than Game 2.

They just said it's the longest WS game in baseball history. What a crazy seesaw game.

EDIT: Holy Cow! Tied again!
