MLB 2017: The Yankees are dead, Yankees burn in hell

Lots of stories coming out now about how the ball is different from the regular season ball, slicker, harder to throw sliders correctly with, etc. Why change it, and is that driving up the runs (which may answer the first question)?

Why screw with things at the end when it matters? Why even introduce that question?

Juiced ball.

Not the first time MLB has done it.

I definitely get why the inclination is to think that the ball has been altered, particularly considering that Rob Manfred is on record, on multiple occasions, as essentially saying that he thinks the game is boring. (Way to be an ambassador for your sport, you jackwagon.) But throughout his career in MLB, the departments Manfred has managed have been such clown shows--for example, MLB's investigative unit, which literally broke state laws and impeded a federal investigation through its ineptitude, or his rather moronic handling of the 1994-95 and 2002 CBA negotiations--that I have a hard time believing that there have been material changes to the construction of the balls. Someone, somewhere, would have talked by now. I'm still of the opinion that the uptick in dingers this year and last year is due to some combination of substances, increased focus on physics metrics like launch angle and velocity thanks to Statcast becoming league-wide in 2015, changing park dimension and, yes, climate change.

In other news, Derek Jeter is certainly going out of his way to endear himself to Marlins fans. After telling Jeff Conine, Andre Dawson and Tony Perez to pack their bags and hit the road, Jeter's next goal is to continue slashing payroll, which he intends to do by trading Stanton, Prado and Gordon. YEAH JEETS

^not speaking to whether or not the ball was juiced during the regular season (it probably was, but not the point I'm making), but that the post-season ball is reportedly noticeably different, specifically slicker, than the regular season ball. People were grabbing them and comparing, and it's definitely more than just a different shiny ink stamp for the playoffs.

Comparing regular season to a year ago would be worth doing to, but the argument was that the balls in September were not the same as the balls used in October. Breaking balls harder to throw successfully, more HRs, etc. Might explain in part why so many SPs were seen to have bad stuff and shit the bed early in their starts. Breaking balls going for HRs, plus short leash in the playoffs = quick exits and high scores

He should be able to get an all-time record haul for Stanton.

He should be able to get an all-time record haul for Stanton.

Stanton has a full no-trade clause, is owed something like $265 million through 2027 and can opt out after 2020, though (and given the way the sports broadcast revenue bubble is imploding and the impending market correction, he'd be a fool to opt out, because no one will give him more money than that). That'll have at least half the teams in the league hesitant.

the opt out is killer. You can give up something, and even talk yourself into the money, if you at least get the player. Give up a ton and have him opt out and you're screwed. Also dead if he gets hurt and doesn't opt out.

It's a tough spot; great player, no idea what's the 'right' thing to give up considering the contract, though. It'll be less than you think, though.

A much-needed cathartic victory for Houston! Congratulations to the Astros on their first World Series Championship!

Astros are world champions!
Eh, more like North American champions. ;)

Great series. Glad the Astros won. Except... summer is really over now. :( How long till spring training?
True, but at least I have college basketball to fill in the void until then. Let's go, Blue Devils! :D

That was one disappointing game 7, but a great series overall. Too bad it's the last baseball we'll see for a while.

Being from Houston, this is really sweet. Until now, Houston has never been to a superbowl, and only once before this to the world series, and of course lost. We don't get a lot of this kind of thing. LOL

By the way, did anyone else think of Nuke LaLoosh in "Bull Durham" after McCullers hit a fourth batter? I wonder if McCann was tempted to call him "Meat" in the dugout.

Slashing payroll has traditionally led to the Marlins winning the World Series, so I can't see how the 350 Marlins fans in greater Miami would be irritated with his approach.
