Missed opportunities in Trek?

FWIW, Chekov didn't get in Generations by design...he and Scotty were substitutes for Spock and McCoy, because Nimoy and Kelley wouldn't do it.
By that point in Kelley's life (given his medical condition) could he have handled the part?
And as a result, Chekov ended up with previously unknown medical skills.
Doesn't make any less sense than Chekov bypassing train and skilled engineers to be made full time Chief Engineer in ST Darkness.

I guess you haven't got to season four yet.
The ship has several TOS elements in it's design both on the exterior and the interior. From the gold balls at the rear of the nacelles to the gold dish at the front.

Yes- about halfway through S3 now. Just seems like a miss that it wasn't established from the get-go!

While I would have like to have seen a Connie from time to time, ocassionally substuting for a Excelsior, I wouldn't have made Picard's first command one. It would have been too "small universe," and we did get to see a well thought-out and different design.

What do you mean "forced to switch?" As I understand it, Nimoy as director (for whatever reason) didn't want Alley to reurn. By contact they had to offer her the part, so they offered her an absurdly small amount of money so she would refuse. Which she did.In the TNG films as well.Would have been nice to have had suggestions of the Romulans right from the start. Archer and crew wouldn't always know it was the Romulans, but the audience would.

I would have liked it if Earth's interstellar inferstructure was much more built up when the ENT series begins. Dozens of well established colonies (which could be visited), a interesting collection of alien allies (some friendlier than others), minor enemies (to scrap with), trade (routes to be jealously defended).

Instead of the Vulcan holding Humanity back for a century, Humans are repeatedly seen to humorously run the "superior" Vulcans in circles.

There would be several hundred "Boomer" cargo ships all over the place, and through Travis Mayweather they would be a important source of interstellar intelligence to Captain Archer.

While the NX01 would be new hot thing in the fleet, Starfleet already has a fair sized fleet out in the galaxy.

It was just an expression. I didn't mean that they were literally forced. I just meant it became a necessity when it became clear that Alley would not be returning for whatever reasons.

While I honestly didn't warm well to the Worf/Troi relationship, that they'd had kids in the TNG episode Parallels got my head buzzing with all kinds of cool thoughts about an empathic or telepathic Klingon lol
The kid could kick someone's ass and feel sorry for them at the same time.
I was thinking more along the lines of a warrior who could read his enemies' minds well enough to be unbeatable

The things that have always bothered me the most were:
1. We never saw what happened to Tom Riker
5. No post-Nemesis movie with a mixed TNG/DS9/Voy cast...I would have loved to se that

I actually have a Manchurian Candidate style Deep Space 9 movie idea involving Ro Laren and Tom Riker as the two main characters along with Worf and Tuvok. My idea included cameos from DS9 and VOY and would have told what happened to most everyone since their respective series ended. Instead, we got Star Trek 09.

He also appeared in one of the other fan serieses, didn't he? Dreaming of aging or something?

New Voyages/Phase 2 "To Serve All My Days" features Walter Koenig as a rapidly aged Chekov

And as a result, Chekov ended up with previously unknown medical skills.

As a security officer and former first officer of the Reliant it's not surprising he's picked up some more advanced first aid over the years. But yes, you can tell they rewrote the parts to fit Chekov and Scotty.

I would have really liked it they'd been able to keep the new characters introduced in TWOK like Saavik, Carol, and David Marcus. It would have been interesting to see how they developed over time.

And yes, I now really wish that Saavik had been the traitor in STVI. It would have given her the ending she never got.

And keep Saavik half Romulan. I posted it in another thread but it would have been a great tie in to Spocks later dedication to reunification - showing the "origins" of his belief that the two cultures could be united in one, even if Saavik did eventually betray him. It would also give more meaningful Romulan participation in the assassination plots. As it stands they're just said to be a part of them, but take no action.
Oooooh!!! :techman: I really like this idea. It fits with the available facts, and adds more context to Spock's later decisions.

I heard it as kind of the opposite. Alley and her agent asked for too much money for her to return, and unbeknownst to them, they were actually asking for more money than DeForest Kelley was getting for STIII.

I would have liked to have seen the other types of Borg that Maurice Hurley hinted at when he said the Borg in "Q Who" represented only one type of the Borg. Since The Borg were supposed to represent insects each type of Borg would have had a specific function in the hive.
I would have loved to have seen some Klingon, Cardassian, or Ferengi Borgs.

Edith Keeler should have been waiting for Kirk in the Nexus.
Hell to the yeah. I also kind of wish we could have seen the reconciled Kirk and Carol Marcus in the never-shot STVI scenes of the crew being gathered.

Picard and Beverly should've become a couple.

The Borg on DS9.

Voyager coming across some systems conquered by the Dominion.

The Maquis crew on Voyager not integrating with Starfleet in the snap of a finger; or at least not all of them. That was unrealistic and not believable. Having the Maquis on board, even though I am certain they would work with the Starfleet crew to make it home, was perfect groundwork for internal conflict--but it was almost entirely wasted.

Also, Voyager was lost and had no access to repairs and standard maintenance for seven years. By the end of the show, that ship should've been beaten up pretty badly...but it looked the same throughout all seven years.

Enterprise was great in seasons 3 and 4 but terrible in seasons 1 and 2. Come to think of it, all the shows (except TOS), were bad in the beginning. I understand it takes time to find the right chemistry and whatnot, but c'mon. There is no excuse for Move Along Home, or the oil monster in Skin of Evil, or sooooo many other laughable things that occurred in the first seasons of the shows.

If Prime universe Chekov is as smart as NuPavel, he probably read a lot and remembered a lot. Plus, a security guy needs basic medical care skills, just as a cop today would.

"Picard and Beverly should've become a couple."

Er no.

"The Borg on DS9."

Hell no

"Voyager coming across some systems conquered by the Dominion".

How? They were nowhere near the Gamma quadrant

"The Maquis crew on Voyager not integrating with Starfleet in the snap of a finger; or at least not all of them."

Yeah that would have made a good season 1 or 2

At the end of DS9, I loved that Kira, the rabid anti-Cardy freedom fighter, had come full circle to become a behind-the-scenes fighter for Cardassian freedom. What a brilliant full circle story. But I was just a little disappointed that she then went back to DS9 at the end. I think it would have been amazing if she'd stayed there, stranded and in hiding in her former enemy's homeland, helping to direct the Cardassian rebellion.

Or Antonia she seemed to be his main regret, apart from Edith.

Kinda think that's the point of people suggesting other characters. Antonia is a brand new character with no history that suddenly we see and are expected to buy as Kirk's great love and dreamed of paradise when there are a variety of other in canon characters that could have been used to create a real tension in that scene because we know Kirk's history with them and how difficult it is for him to leave them.
