What do you think of this episode?I think it's a great one as we see both uinverses of the crew in both times. And it also was the first time we see an peralall or altertinve reality of a crew from any of the shows. And now there are the other shows and movies including books based in altertinve reality. So what do you think about it?

Best episode of the series, I think. Although it does require a thorough knowledge of the show to date to full appreciate it. :)

It didn't when TOS was the only show, but I agree, it is the best episode of that series.

The best things about "Mirror, Mirror":

A. Spock with a beard.

B. The Captain's Woman. In the Mirrorverse, a starship captain gets his own officially assigned ho’.

C. Lt. Uhura looking unbelievably hot in that abbreviated uniform.

D. The Agony Booth!

Agreed on Uhura in that ep -- she is so damn hot in that barely there outfit! That ep cemented my childhood crush on Nichelle Nichols. It is one of the best of the series. Lots of campy lines and you have to love Mirror Spock's beard!

Sure it did--part of the fun of the episode was watching the evil versions of our favorite characters. If you weren't familiar with the show to begin with, if you weren't vested in the characters, I think some of that is lost.

In other words, Mirror Mirror would have been a bad choice to show in the front six eps. It's perfect for 2nd season.

Oh, I see now. I was thinking you meant in relation to what was established about the Mirror Universe in DS9 and ENTERPRISE.

I figured. :)

^ You have me genuinely curious now because you keep saying there are only four episodes of second season TOS that are great: how many second season episodes do you think are good (not great) or just okay?

Anyway, "Mirror, Mirror", great episode.

One of the best..but the best? I don't know. I know that fans vote it that way, but I rate it #3 behind CITY... and Amok Time..but have no gripes if it is number one to others..

My favorite part? Barbra Luna's awesome nightgown...oh yeah!!!

It is one of the best episodes of the show. Makes you wish they had explored the Mirror universe again in TOS!

Great episode - one of my favorites. The idea of an alternative universe, the hot uniforms (still drooling over Kirk's upper arm's ), one of Kirk's famous speeches, and - of course - Spock's beard. Cool, very cool.

Cool episode...

The music....You know the theme: Duuuh. Duh-duh-duh-duh-duhduh. Duh-duh-duh-duh-duhduh.

Interestingly, there is a romantic version of that theme whenever Marlena Moreau shows up...then the menacing version that turns up when the er, 'Prime' TOS crew find out they are in the Mirror universe.

Other than that, some other good points: Uhura in that outfit, Marlena Moreau in that outfit (although, she didn't fill it out as much as Miss Nichols *ahem*)...cool, evil Sulu...cool Vulcan bodyguards trailing Spock...Kirk in top form...

One of my short list--that handful of episodes I love so much I prefer not to rank them. It is the perfect example of Trek's gift for straight-faced camp: sure, the idea makes no sense, really (as The Laughing Vulcan once astutely demonstrated) and the things that make it great (see scotpens's illustrated list above) all are silly as hell when looked at from a certain (killjoy) angle but the show sells it so that it feels like serious SF. Love it.

Anyway, "Mirror, Mirror", great episode.

Off the top of my head at this moment I'd say that half of the second season is between good and mediocre, and there are two or three episodes that are better than the average but don't quite make excellent.

For me, "Journey To Babel" falls short of excellent but is considerably better than average - say a three-and-a-half star show out of five stars.

Only three second season shows that I can think of right now earn four or five stars - "Amok Time," "The Doomsday Machine" and "Mirror, Mirror."

The season has far, far too many episodes that are mediocre if not outright clunkers - shows like "The Apple," "A Private Little War," "The Omega Glory" and "Patterns Of Force" come to mind.

My criteria are admittedly fuzzy - the most basic is that there are just episodes that I'll watch with some anticipation even now. Another is that in addition to having a strong dramatic component and story line the episode has a really significant science fiction or fantasy component. And of course people are going to disagree on what's a strong story or how "significant" the imaginative aspect of an episode is. I imagine that the presence in "Journey To Babel" of so many "alien" creatures as well as the experimental nature of the surgery being performed on Spock's father seem much more interestingly "science fictional" to many viewers than they do to me. The aliens, in particular, come across to me as nothing more than generic and convenient suspects in a clumsy mystery storyline who happen to be wearing funny hats.
