What? Over so soon?

Vanyel: Back in the mid-90's I ran a dial-up BBS system called "The Cove." That's where the the name CoveTom comes from. The story of how the BBS came to be called "The Cove" is an entirely separate, and lengthier, matter...![]()

Regarding the origins of my username, it's not as juicy a story as you're hoping for.As I said in the last thread, I used to have a dial-up BBS called The Cove, and that's where "CoveTom" comes from.
Originally, back in the old pre-Internet days, a friend and I tried setting up BBS software on my parents' phone line at home just to fire up whenever we wanted to be able to trade files with one another. We gave it some cheesy name like "Connection America" or something like that. Later, after we'd played with the software for a while, we decided that we'd like to actually do a real, live BBS that was open to the public.
So we did. And we needed a name. As a teenager, I was a fan of Disney's remake of The Mickey Mouse Club, which they usually referred to as MMC. On that show, they had a little teen soap opera going that they called Emerald Cove, so that was the first thing we named the BBS. But on further reflection, we decided that maybe we shouldn't use a name that was a direct ripoff of Disney, so we shortened it to just "The Cove."
See? It was a long story, and ultimately not very satisfying.![]()
