Mini series between Wrath of Kahn and Search for Spock?

Ok some one Please help me here. am I dilusional? maybe in an alternate reality here?

But I thought that after the movie Wrath of Kahn that there were appromaxly 5 epesiodes that aired on tv in the 80's bridging the gap between the search for spock. I remember watching this on VHS ( i know what is a VCR?) and the end of Kahn there being a message "TO be Continued" and also something about watching on tv the epesiodes. am I missing something here? I can find no reference to these epesiodes anywhere.

There were a series of comics by DC set betweeen II and III, but never any episodes. After the end of the Animated Series in '74, Trek didn't return to TV until The Next Generation in 1987.

DC Comics #1-8 were set between the two films. Issue #9 picks up after The Search for Spock.

You might be lactose intolerant.

It's interesting how the mind works, distinctly remembering something that was on the printed page as being something watched on television. Sort of a false memory apparently. Perhaps it's also a partial memory of a dream by the OP.

Ok Guys and Gals thanks for the Replies. I was talking about this with a friend at work. I do know for a fact that it definitly was not a comic that I read or saw. do not read them.

What my friend and I were wondering was if it is possible the copy of the VHS tape I saw was one of the 1st productions of the movie on Tape and at the time there were thoughts or plans to make a series on tv to span the gap? if that were true though I kind of thought that there would have been some mention of it on a wiki or something.

To put it bluntly, no...that is not possible. Are you sure you're not just misremembering the text at the end of Trek III? ("...and the Adventure continues...")

There's not really much that can be bridged. The only thing to explain is where Carol went and the Grissom picking up Saavik, David, and the Reliant crew. Maybe the phaser change too. ;)

Don't know what that could have been, but definitely wasn't a miniseries taking place between 2 and 3. The only known "episodes" that I can think of have already been mentioned: the DC comics.

This is unlikely, but MAYBE what you remember seeing is cut scenes re-added into the ABC televised version of TWOK and TSFS, but that isn't very much footage...maybe less than 10 minuted between both movies.

Finally, and this is also probably unlikley the thing you are thinking of, but there were a number of Star Trek story LPs with accompanying comics, as seen here:

I wonder if we'll ever see a time in my lifetime when people can actually spell "Khan" correctly?

Oh and I LOVED those comics - followed them RELIGIOUSLY when I was a teenager!!!

you are discarding two important possibilities, we may live in altered timeline whereas OP remembers the proper original events, or the OP himself is from alternate universe / reality where those episodes aired.

I always knew they are f***ing something up in CERN :guffaw:

The Wrath of Kahn is about the time a guy named Maury Kahn goes to the local deli and finds out they're all out of corned beef. :shifty:

You must have dreamed it.

Apart from the DC Comics' story arc, which showed Saavik filling the absent Spock's science officer role (and going through pon farr and searching for her bondmate, Xon, in the Romulan Neutral Zone), there were also "bonus scenes" in the novelizations of ST II, III and IV, in which a romantic attraction between Saavik and David was played out, and Dr Chapel and Carol Marcus visited the human and Deltan families of the dead Genesis scientists.

The SubCommander said: This is unlikely, but MAYBE what you remember seeing is cut scenes re-added into the ABC televised version of TWOK and TSFS, but that isn't very much footage...maybe less than 10 minuted between both movies.
No bonus footage was added to the TV airing of ST III. There was publicity about the little Vulcan girl's cameo (by Katherine Blum) being shot, but that footage has never been restored.

Only the Saavik story in "Star Trek II Short Stories" is set after ST II, IIRC. The others are set during or just after TOS; it's been a loooong time since I read them. There are also excerpts of everyone's diaries, logs and academic papers in "Star Trek II Biographies", several of which make references to the Genesis Planet forming, although author William Rotsler suggests (IIRC) the planet will be named "Spock", and that the device terraformed Ceti Alpha V.

There was also a radio stage play, "The Machiavellian Principle", written by Walter Koenig, that was seen live at a convention, "The Ultimate Fantasy" (the convention flopped badly, and was called "The Con of Wrath" and "The Ultimate Fiasco" by fans), not long after the premiere of ST II, in which Kirstie Alley reprised her role of Saavik! It featured McCoy, Scott, Uhura, Sulu and Chekov, all played by their original actors, a new alien played by Mark Lenard, and with a walk-on at the end by "The Admiral".

at the time there were thoughts or plans to make a series on tv to span the gap?

Not to "span the gap", no, because there were no plans whatsoever for ST III while ST II was being written or filmed. Each of the six TOS movies were filmed as the "last" reunions of the TOS characters. There were definitely tenuous plans for a series of Shatner-less and Nimoy-less telemovies focusing on the new young stars playing Saavik and David, had ST II not done as well in cinemas, but... Nimoy agreed to return Spock from the dead for ST III and, as director, replaced the actress playing Saavik, rethinking her character as a full-Vulcan. All thoughts of telemovies (mooted after TMP and again after ST II) vanished when TOS finally found its feet in the cinemas.

This thread reminds me of the recent discussion about the mysterious Kirk line that was included only in the theatrical version of TUC but was deleted before the VHS release. Truly amazing how people remember something despite it having no basis in reality.

Not possible. At the time TWOK was released, the general consensus was that it would be the last Star Trek film. It was only after the film performed well at the box-office and fans demanded that Spock be allowed to return in a subsequent movie that The Search for Spock was put on the drawing board. There were never any plans for a TV movie or mini-series to span the gap between the two films.

As I said earlier, there was no perceived "gap" when ST II was being filmed, but it was originally conceived as a telemovie (to be released theatrically overseas), as were films like "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century", "Duel", "Battlestar Galactica" and "Mission Galactica: The Cylon Attack".

And Kirstie Alley and Merritt Butrick were groomed as the featured players for a potential series of telemovies, had Shatner and Nimoy continued to be disinterested in future Treks on TV.

^Interesting. I'd never read any of that before. It would have been strange having a series of films or even a mini-series of Trek without Shatner and Nimoy in the mix, as this was before the days of TNG. And as Merritt Butrick passed away only a few years after TWOK and TSFS, it's strange to think about what might have happened to his character had the David-Saavik romance angle been used.

He was still working as of Season One of TNG ("Symbiosis", 1988), so had the Saavik/David-led telemovies come out at a rate of two or three per year, they'd still have put quite a few under their belts.
