It depends on the atmosphere in which you are raised then. My son is innocent of what sex is (other than teaching him what his private parts are and that no one but him can touch them, except a doctor if something is wrong with said private parts) and until he asks/or hits puberty, I'm going to let him enjoy his childhood! Filled with Santa Claus, the tooth fairy and the Easter Bunny!
Not being critical here, but how would informing him about the nature of sex ruin his childhood?
Disney has led more young people down the road to ruin than heavy metal and organized religion. Sure hasn't done Brittney or Lindsay any favors. And it looks like Miley is goign to tread the path. And her old man Bubba Billy Ray is going along as she rescued him from obscurity.
It is not part of childhood to know about sex...I knew nothing of it until my early teen years and I liked it that way...childhood is being a child, free from adult responsibilities and knowledge. When they ask or are curious about these things, that usually means they are ready for the knowledge. Unless they haven't asked by puberty...then it's time for 'the talk'
Right now the only thing my son is interested in is Lego! And girls are ok as long as they like Lego too
Well, it can be. Didn't seem to ruin anything for me, anyway. But to each their own. I think I asked around age 5 or 6. I didn't understand how your body knew when two people were married so as to start growing a child.
Amusingly, I was in the back seat of my mom's car when I found out how it really worked.
You poor thing. Judging from your experience, no one is too young to have bad ideas implanted his mind.
Young, impressionable girls don't need to hear from a girl celebrity. They need to hear from their parents.
Public Relations isn't quantum physics. It's so glaringly obvious that this ad campaign would be incredibly bad for Miley's image (something that is slowly becoming less wholesome already).

Unless their parents are abstinence-only nutjobs who expect their kids to deny their most primal instincts and desires. Hearing about safe sex from as many sources as possible couldn't hurt.
At any rate, I doubt Miley will go for it, for stated PR reasons.
That's the irresponsible, secular progressive viewpoint. Here's to "abstinence-only nutjobs." Their kids are less likely to wind up pregnant at an early age, drop out of school and end up on welfare.

Tell me about it. I'm actually delighted that my youngest sis at the age of 13 still is a little kid. I love that she's still doing little girl stuff and all that, both me and my older little sis where way more grown up at 13 and I don't really know if it where for the best.

i'm not sure what to believe either..but you can bet I'll hear this on the radio tomorrow morning..our radio people are ALWAYS talking about something to that nature. I'm not sure if I believe it or not until I hear it on CNN or the radio during my morning commute to work.
That is just wrong.
I was like that and didn't know about any of that until sex education during Year 7 in high school at 12 years-old ...... Most of it didn't really seem that relevant anyway, until Puberty stuff started around mid 14.
Highschool in the UK is usually 5 years. Aleast for compulsory education. Some people remain in school to do A-Level exams. Which is usually from 16 - 18 years old. After that some people go to University, which is more like American college.
Year 7 - 11/12
Year 8 - 12/13
Year 9 - 13/14
Year 10 - 14/15
Year 11 - 15/16
Now there's one point I didn't manage to miss. 
As for Miley and condoms and all that: No big deal. Girls listen to her, she says to use condoms, and so they do. Maybe even though they're still having sex, they're not gonna catch a disease or get pregnant. I don't see the downside to that.
My niece is 12, and is a fan of Miley. We're not freaking out over her hearing about condoms. Far as we're concerned, not *enough* word is going out about them.
