A previous Midnight's Edge video cited Doug Fitz and Lesie Owens as reliable sources. Doug has previously made claims that Star Trek Into Darkness only cost $60 million to make and JJ Abrams embezzled the rest of the $190 million budget and that secret Hollywood trials were ongoing about it. Leslie claimed often to be a Star Trek author, when all she has written is a bizarre Picard/Riker (as in, in a sexual relationship) fanfic. Both supported and donated to Axanar, that fan film project which spent over a millon dollars in fan donations to pay for Alec Peters' then-girlfrend's gasoline for two years, his phone bills for two years, repairs to his car, personal medical expenses and launching a failed film studio instead of the promised movie. Even after all that became public knowledge.

Yes, Paramount Pictures are in the shitter and Star Trek 4 is in development hell, but their reasons are likely fiction designed to generate clicks and YouTube money.

Something has to be done to make the next movie more a must see event for even non trekkies (like ST09 and ID) if its another Beyond it'd make even less than that movie (so more Final Frontier than Voyage Home. or Nemesis coming after Insurrection) and they obviously aren't sure if Thor Trek is going to do it. Tarantino Trek would be one way, a TNG reboot would certainly be intriguing/more an event (but now the real TNG is coming back), and the Back to The Voyage Home idea above would be another :D

It's a big ask with a likely reduced budget, especially if said budget drops below say 120m. Any 'must see' event for non-trekkies is going to require some spectacle I suspect.

At this point, things have gone so quiet that I'm doubting that this project is moving forward at all.

hollywood is unpredictable to those who don't know how these productions work. A year ago we had no news then suddenly you had Tarantino, a female director etc etc
and that's the point: unlike what the guys who made this video seem to believe they know, what happens behind the scenes is unknown even to the cast and you can never know what will happen next. You can only wait and see.
Right now I think it's a 50/50 thing but something tells me that those in power are cooking something while we are speculating.

It is also possible they're just keeping quiet not to get lost in the recent hype for Disco S2 and The Picard Show.... but I suspect not.

they apparently had a deal not to step on each other's toes when beyond was being promoted and discovery season 1 was on the way, it might work in reverse -- they can't or aren't making waves about star trek 4 while discovery season 2 is being promoted.

that's just me playing devil's advocate, there's probably no news because there's no news. it's probably stuck in development hell. but i'm pretty optimistic it's not dead-dead. just kind of or mostly dead.

There's always the possibility they may decide to back away entirely from the Kelvinverse and if they see enough interest in Discovery era to go ahead and start making films from this time period, working out a deal with CBS. Sounds too early, but they'd save money on actors, possibly be able to reuse some sets (and vice versa).

They're not really looking at some built-in huge Kelvin-or-Bust audience they'd have to appease. Trek fans, loudly complaining or not, will go see whatever it is with a saucer and two tubes. More importantly Paramount needs to sell whatever it is to a new audience every time, and hopefully this time keep them coming back. They couldn't turn the Kelvin Verse into the kind of juggernaut they wanted, and realistically, the 4th try wasn't going to suddenly make that happen.

They're probably wasting believing that Trek is this magic golden egg in their nest that's going to one day be the Star Wars or MCU they always wanted it to be. It's an old franchise, it was ultimately best on the small screen, had some good moments on the bigger one, and might, if anything, be able to pioneer some new era between the two. They'd be best trying something new. I won't mind of they do make a 4th Abrams movie, but if they don't , wait awhile and something else will occur, and it might be quite a bit better.

such optimism in this thread about ST4 happening lol... can just picture a future unofficial Making Of The Kelvin Movies book by Gross/Altman with the ST4 chapter delving into all the BTS stuff of why it didn't happen, the lost script (adapted from Orcis ST3) etc

Fingers crossed we will all feel incredibly foolish when more news is announced about ST4 soon.

I hope I'm proved wrong. I love the kelvin movies. I've found them to be hugely entertaining and a breath of fresh air after berman trek.

By that logic, any schmoe with a YouTube channel who announces himself as a critic automatically assumes an instant air of credibility.

No, thanks. Anyone can claim knowledge of this or that, and I don't need to "cite a counter-source" before deciding I'm not convinced that these guys possess significantly greater knowledge concerning what's up behind the scenes than does the average fan.

Am I willing to entertain the possibility that Midnight's Edge might not be 100% incorrect? Sure, but at this point in time that's the most credit I can give.

I poured a ladle of cold diarrhea into my left ear. Slowly.

It was more pleasant and informative than this video.

    Sure.

And unless YOU can site a counter-source, you should at least entertain the possibility that Kate Upton is my personal love slave.

    Makes sense, right?

    Mr. Kate Upton would disagree.

I shall do that! Apparently the burden of proof is on you, and not me....so that makes it pretty awesome!

    Is that true?
    Oh, joy.
They really, really, really, hate Star Trek, don't they?
