Michelle Yeoh will feature in Discovery, possibly as lead

Yeoh will indeed play the previously rumored captain of the Federation starship Shenzou—although her character’s name is now Captain Georgiou, rather than Han Bo as reported by Deadline.
Hey, she'll be Greek!!! Great news! :bolian:

(Yes, I know his name is spelled differently)

It's nice to finally get official confirmation. I like that they are to be giving her a non-Chinese name.

I'll betcha anything they'll save the casting Announcement for "Number One" last (they probably want to get the right person for the job and not any joe blow (or jane blow). Similar to how Chris Pine was announced to be playing two weeks before Shooting began on ST 09.

History as it was explained to us in the 60s: "Garth" gets into a horrible accident, and is then rebuilt by aliens who don't understand his biology at all... So maybe Garth was born as a Chinese woman, but they put him back together as a white dude?

You're thinking of Vina from "The Cage".

Garth crash-landed on Antos IV and was taught the technique of cellular metamorphosis. (Not sure how a human being could 'learn' how to shapeshift, but there we are. )

So maybe Garth was born as a Chinese woman, but they put him back together as a white dude?

I meant, I'd like it if Garth was the captain of the Discovery itself (not the Shenzhou). We know that whoever the captain is, it won't be a main character, so if it's Garth, it would fit.

I read this on Memory Alpha last night.
His legacy was tarnished following the accident that left him badly maimed. The gentle beings of Antos IV nursed him in his darkest hour, and gifted him with their technique of cellular metamorphosis to repair his mangled body.

I did notice the similarity, but I'd assumed that they'd recycled the Cage plot.

I guess it's just a question of our definition of "nursed".

So the captain of Chinese ancestry has a ship with a Chinese name. A little trite, wouldn't you say? They're trying too hard.

So I am confused.....how will Michelle Yeoh be on the series if she's not actually on Discovery?
The same way Enterprise season 4 had Captain Hernandez as a recurring character even though she wasn't one of the NX-01's crew. Or hell, just look at how many characters were in DS9's recurring cast that weren't actually serving on board the station or the Defiant.

Hell, if we go outside of Trek, BSG had several recurring characters and even a few main characters who weren't part of the Galactica crew. The Stargate series had uncounted supporting characters who didn't belong to the SGC, Atlantis expedition, or Destiny crew.

It's possible that Picard was speaking French, with a French accent the whole time on TNG, which makes a lot more sense than Jean-Luc speaking English with a British accent.

OT but I've always figured that in the StarTrek universe Henry V didn't die as soon as he did in ours, so England (and later Britain, after Scotland's invasion of England) maintained control of France. Irrespective of his accent, Jean-luc Picard is consistently shown as the most British person ever.
