Michael Emerson is a PERSON OF INTEREST

The machine is starting to creep me out a little. What if it is sentient and becomes a threat? What then for our heroes?

Glad to see Carter being slowly brought into helping Reese and Finch out. There's no way they could've had her chasing after Reese and trying to arrest him episode after episode for season after season. This was originally going to happen towards the end of the season but CBS asked them to do it earlier. I'm glad because Carter chasing them was already getting old.

Yup, that was Angel Batista.

I like the idea of this show going more sci fi by implying the Machine may have some form of sentience. Anything to break the cop show formula.

very cool thanks. agin fantastic episode and awesome show. I love it.

Good episode. I agree with your comments. They did seem to go out of their way to describe the "black box" nature of the machine.

Also, back then, the government was trying to hack it. That's probably still happening too.

I like Carter being involved more, but they have to be careful with that, I think.

They've added some nice possible levels to the story.

Another quality episode! They have a nemesis now. I wonder who it is; anyone we know or someone still to be revealed?

I like that they brought Zoe back, but was hoping for a bit more out of her very capable hands.

What was Lionel working on? Will they address that or was it just a throwaway line to explain the actors absence from the episode?

The fight in the bathroom was pretty visceral!

^I had assumed that Reese had Lionel working on finding stuff out about Finch, and hence, why Reese wouldn't go into detail.

I liked this episode, too. The fight was brutal (nice use of the hand dryer, btw) and I liked Finch trying to work in the library.

In the previous episode, Reese set Fusco on the task of trailing Finch. I would assume Fusco is still on that task whenever Finch is "off the job," so to speak.

Edited to add: Beaten by auntiehill!

They either kept her in the shadows because they haven't cast the role yet or it's someone already seen on the show. At first I thought it was Zoe but then she was with Reese when Finch was talking via computer to "Root". It's possible the mystery woman is Reese's old CIA handler who isn't really dead like those two creepy CIA dudes said.

the fight sceen in the bath room reminded me casino royal, quick nasty and brutal.

I hope they bring ROOT back soon they need more antagonist since carter joined the team.

Since the actress who portrayed Root* in this episode is someone who actually has a decent amount of acting experience, I think Root is a separate character - but is working for Reese's old handler.

(* She's also been pretty good in the television appearances of hers that I've seen.)

I wonder why they kept her face hidden then. I'm guessing that she'll appear as a PoI and they'll make us think she's a victim then they reveal she's a baddie similar to what they did with the Elias character.

I think they ought to have a continuing storyline where Person of Interest=Voter. A villainous villain (perhaps a native-born convert to Islam who is also a die-hard Commie who pretends in a diabolical stroke of genius to be foreign-born!) hijacks the machine to rig elections. The climax of the series comes when the Heroes kill the Muslim/socialist tyrant. This should take care of the ranting about safe story lines.;)

Seriously, how is it possible to expand to a continuing storyline without magnifying the gaping hole in the premise, to wit, no one would leave this system unused?

The most interesting part of this series for me so far is watching Reese kick butt. He needs to do more badass things to compensate for the dull, unsurprising plots. Seriously, did anyone not realize very quickly that the out of work guy was being set up, or that the murder was one of the Congressman's colleagues? Very standard stuff.

So the cops are not at all suspicious that some average guy was busted from FBI custody by a ninja who has the combined skills of an entire Seal Team Six squad? Since when do average guys have friends who can do that? Obviously, the guy really is a terrorist, and there's more to the story than meets the eye. He should still be under investigation but this show isn't interested in such details.

After CSI, Bones and god knows how many other shows, its kind of hard not to work out the bad guy these days.

I really had no intention of giving PoI a shot. The last thing I need is another show to try and keep up with. First couple of eps were on in the background while I was doing other things. Somewhere around ep three or four I made the mistake of actually paying attention. Not only have I not missed an ep since, but now my wife is making it a point to watch it with me.

On broadcast, certainly. They need to start doing what cable does - not following a damn formula! There's no law that says they need to follow a formula. Probably just inertia or fear that the audience will rebel unless they see a comforting formula. Pfft.

The worst thing is, I've never seen CSI or Bones or NYPD SVU anything, and I still can figure out the formulas. I must have absorbed them by osmosis. :rommie:

So Harold Finch isn't his real name. Neither is it Harold Wren which is the name he had at MIT. That person didn't exist until I think it was 1976. So who is this guy really? And will we find out by the end of the season?

^Yes, it certainly does thicken the plot where Finch is concerned. Now I like him more than ever and want to know more.
