Michael Dorn introduction vs. Jeri Ryan

Keiko I agree is a detractor. Jadzia was neutral until she went all Klingon, and then she was annoying. But Ezri I liked; I just wished we'd had her around longer to really develop her as a character.

I thought Keiko refreshingly realistic. Enough with the evolving past bitchiness.
I've always liked Keiko, I don't know why people have such a problem with her. Especially considering how little we saw her compared to some of the other recurring characters. I enjoyed how she was so encouraging of Miles and Julian's relationship.

She knew if Miles didn't get his Julian fix he would be moping around the flat like a wet dog. He always came back from his playdates in a much better mood. Little did she know..

Do some people really have a problem with Keiko? Why? She has to be one of the most harmless/inoffensive characters in Trek. And like someone said she hardly ever appears.

As for Voyager, it absolutely needed to add the visual appeal of Seven, because Voyager had nothing else going for it.

Obviously, as a Janeway fanatic, I have a problem with this statement. :scream:
Obviously, as a doctor fanatic, I can't quite agree with either of you. After she joined, 7 ranked third behind the doc and Janeway, and was always overshadowed by both of them. She at least replaced another chracter, Kes, who laid waste to every episode in which she had more than a cameo apperance. 7 was a useful addition.
Worf wasn't . While WoW was a good episode indeed, but apart from the rare watchable episode that followed on DS9, it descended to the mess of dominion war, klingon-honor nonsense, and Worf in love. Scorpion is in a different league altogether, and the best seasons of Voyager just begun.

^Well, given the massive coverage the Doc got on VOY you must be pretty pleased with the show overall.

And according to a youtube video I saw in the TNG forum, Worf actually had a secret crush on Riker, so maybe they should have brought Frakes in and let Worf finally have a long-term relationship.

^Ha ha, really? I'm not. I mean it's not like I think about it and I don't find either Riker or Worf attractive, but it doesn't gross me out. Now, Janeway/7--that grosses me out. I guess it just depends on which way the wind blows for you.

I was thrilled when Worf joined DS9, and I felt his character worked well on the show. He blended in well with the other characters, and brought a sense of familiarity with him to the show that made it a smooth transition. 7 of 9 was an interesting character, and I felt she did improve the show. I always felt they should have had her appear in one of the TNG films once Voyager got back. A shame that didn't happen.

His personality. His horrible barking on the bridge, his leering expression, his in your face aggressiveness. His smugness. I really, really, really dislike him. And I pretty much love everyone on every Trek.

I honestly thought Worf fit in better on DS9. He was alright on TNG, but I could be biased since I think the majority of the TNG characters are frightfully boring. I just think the atmosphere and responsibilities on DS9 were more challenging for Worf, something I think he'd appreciate. He gets occasional missions that he gets to lead and unlike Ten Forward, Quark's bar isn't filled with harmless people. Sure, he isn't security chief anymore, but he'd still be watching that place like a hawk. That and Worf is intimidated by Sisko which I find as amusing as Sisko did.

:techman: I've never gotten the Keiko hate.

Bollocks to that. :p

Wow, I've gotten any of that from Riker. Well, the aggressiveness sometimes but even with that he seemed really out of character at the start of Ensign Ro.

I get the Keiko hate. While I definitely approve of the depiction of a more realistic relationship/marriage in Star Trek, I can't for the life of me understand what O'Brien sees in her. She always sounds like she's whining about something and strikes me as difficult to live with.

Keiko was the worst. All she added to TNG and DS9 was complaining.

I liked the transition of Worf to DS9 over 7 of 9 on VOY. There was such a rich development of his character. It was nice to see him in a new setting.

The only real problem with Keiko was that by virtue of her only being in a handful of episodes, she was usually only there to create a problem at home for Miles. There's little reason for them to go to the trouble of hiring Rosalind for a given episode just so that she can welcome Miles home and tell him dinner is ready.

Once in a while she worked quite well (IMO) such as the not-really-Keiko in The Assignment, or the family angst of Time's Orphan.

I think that maybe had her professional role been one more suited to TV and that could be worked into plots more often, the writers might have had more to do than simply define her character as "bitchy."
