Mel Brooks Returning as Yogurt in Spaceballs Sequel

I am torn about this.

One one hand it's a blast from my youth and has become a classic but on the other i like to believe i have outgrown this type of humor and fear we might just get a flat juvenile comedy movie from the 90s. I hope it'll be still funny and update some of the jokes to a more contemporary style, whatever that may be.

^Yeah, that's the kicker. I'm kind of skeptical of a more contemporary humour would even work for this type of movie. I mean, not only is humour entirely subjective, but it's also an incredibly delicate thing, especially in context to a sequel that's several decades apart. It makes me nervous about revisiting it.

And Mel Brooks isn't exactly PC in his style of humor. Despite the fact that it was one of the most anti-racist movies ever made, "Blazing Saddles" wouldn't get made today.

It's not even so much that he isn't PC which isn't the problem, but rather more akin to the style and topics that are being lampooned. And lampoon-style comedy is what I'd call it. I feel that if a more modern humour style were to be applied to its sequel, it'll lose all of its subtlety and become full of aggressive jokes that hit you on the head with them. The attitudes have also changed a lot since the original movie.

Good, good. Still need Colonel Sandurz though.

I posted this in another thread here, but really, it's better here:

"Wait -- I think I found shit..."

Glorious uplifting music with wordless church chorus; ground parts:

Literal pile of shit.

Stranger things have happened...

He finally found something... a hint of a lost civilization that turns out to not have been a galaxy far far away...

I haven't outgrown that type of humor! I will def give this a look, if just for Mel.

Dark Helmet- I've been away for 38 years! I need to know what happens now!

Colonel Sanders- While you've been away we've devised a new system to know what happens now. Streaming........

Hour's later.......

Dark Helmet- I need to know what happens next! It stopped 6 episodes in!

Colonel Sanders- Unfortunately we won't know what happens now because season 2 isn't out yet.

Dark Helmet: I want Ludicrus Speed. Now! *waits and waits* Why is nothing happening?

<Said offscreen> Sorry Sir, that was a trial version. They want us to pay a monthly fee to keep using it!

Dark Helmet: Oh no, that won't do! What am I supposed to do now? Use the Schwartz?

And maybe this is a hot take, but after almost 40 years, I'm kind of, well, tired of Spaceballs?

I joked in another thread that if Commander Riker had been turned into a Borg instead of Picard, when Picard fired on the cube, Erectus the Borg (Riker) would shoot out of the cube with two Borg spheres side-by-side and above them a Borg probe aiming straight out.

Something like that could be done in Spaceballs 2: The Long Overdue Sequel.

Well, Mel is pretty close to death -- not like they can destroy his "career" or blacklist him now. Might as well shoot a Dark Helmet middle finger at them.
i recall a small effort to try to tar him as a white supremacist of all things a few years ago... like they saw Blazing Saddles and that one about the Polish theater, among other things, and had a complete WOOSH...

i hope he isn't too close to death, though XD

I wonder. Will Spaceball Two be an EVEN LARGER starships, or will they only make it look like it is a HUGE spaceship until you get to see it scaled next to something else?
