No bulkier than that WWII looking comm' from the "Wrath of Khan". You could "take out" a tribble simply by dropping that box on the lil' fuzzball! That's one bulky-ass piece of STAR TREK technology, right there ...

IDIC, manBoy, you said it, Redfern! I still don't understand what the thinking was there, other than referring to Military Hardware, which is often built to be very durable and resistant to wear and abuse. I've never seen anything written about that communicator, but I have seen duplicates of it selling as toys and I'm like ... who the hell would even want that? But ... that's fandom for you, I guess.
I believe you'll like AnovosUntil STAR TREK merchandise is up to snuff, they'll never get my hard-earned money!
Were I interested in costumes and their accessories, yes ... you would be right about Anovos. These do not look like inferior garments and such. The meditation crystal Riker gives to Mistress Beata in Angel One. I think it's an interesting piece and were the quality such, I'd love to own a faithful reproduction of it -- especially if it were made of glass, instead of plastic:

This is a suitably obscure object I could keep anywhere in the house and nobody would look at it and say, "... you're a STAR TREK fan, aren't you?" Things of this nature are very intriguing to me. Also, there are many interesting drinking glasses that have been used on various STAR TREK series episodes and would not mind owning examples of some of these, as well ...

Sounds like what I like about my replica of the old circus poster that inspired John Lennon to write "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite"...it doesn't directly reference the Beatles, and its significance could be lost on those not versed in Fab lore. This is a suitably obscure object I could keep anywhere in the house and nobody would look at it and say, "... you're a STAR TREK fan, aren't you?"
