News Mego Toys Returns To Trek

Boy, you said it, Redfern! I still don't understand what the thinking was there, other than referring to Military Hardware, which is often built to be very durable and resistant to wear and abuse. I've never seen anything written about that communicator, but I have seen duplicates of it selling as toys and I'm like ... who the hell would even want that? But ... that's fandom for you, I guess.

IDIC, man

I did some research about the TWOK communicator, and this is what I found:

Communicator2.jpg

I could see them having 'heavy-duty' communicators that would be better able to withstand battle conditions. Kirk took one because it was vital to contact Spock at the appropriate time, he didn't know what he was getting into, and he wanted the type of communicator that would be the more likely to survive whatever those conditions might be.

I believe you'll like Anovos ;)
Were I interested in costumes and their accessories, yes ... you would be right about Anovos. These do not look like inferior garments and such. But I'd only be interested in certain prop reproductions -- mainly from TNG. But items that aren't necessarily going to give themselves away as being STAR TREK, to the untrained eye. For example:
The meditation crystal Riker gives to Mistress Beata in Angel One. I think it's an interesting piece and were the quality such, I'd love to own a faithful reproduction of it -- especially if it were made of glass, instead of plastic:

This is a suitably obscure object I could keep anywhere in the house and nobody would look at it and say, "... you're a STAR TREK fan, aren't you?" Things of this nature are very intriguing to me. Also, there are many interesting drinking glasses that have been used on various STAR TREK series episodes and would not mind owning examples of some of these, as well ...

That is a very, um, specific standard.

Sounds like what I like about my replica of the old circus poster that inspired John Lennon to write "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite"...it doesn't directly reference the Beatles, and its significance could be lost on those not versed in Fab lore.

A potential issue with this sort of thing regarding Trek props like drinking glasses is that a lot of them were probably store-bought items in the first place, so TPTB probably wouldn't have any ownership over them for purposes of licsensing them as merchandise, if they had any interest in doing so.

That is a very good point about the store bought props! Hadn't thought of that ... it's always something, with this franchise. Always so close to what I want ... I can almost taste it ... only to find out everything's caught up In red tape. And it's back to sifting through Mr. Spock cookie jars and Worf PEZ dispensers.

OTOH, it may be possible to track down the originals if one has the know-how and resources. The late GSchnitzer had an impressive ability to do this with off-the-shelf and repurposed props that were used on TOS.
