Media Player 9 Issue

John Picard

Vice Admiral
Admiral
I rarely use Media Player because it never works properly. Perhaps I should say, I never use it because it doesn't work properly.

The issue is that if I have a clip that Winamp cannot play, and I attempt to play that clip using Media Player, I get about 3 seconds of video before the screen on the player goes blank. The clip keeps playing, as evidenced by the sound proceeding to the end of the clip; however, no video. There doesn't appear to be any missing CODECS, so I'm wondering if upgrading to Media Player v.11 would be of any use.

WMP isn't known for being able to play a wide range of formats even after you have the proper codecs installed.

For hard-to-play files, I use VLC which plays practically everything I've ever thrown at it.

^ I've a handful of clips here that VLC doesn't like yet WMP has no issues with. VLC also has an unfortunate tendency to throw a fit when I move a currently playing video from one display to another.

When is the last time you updated your video card driver?

Probably when I had to execute a complete re-install of XP when I had a hard drive go TU last year. Maybe I'll give that a shot.
