i've rethought this one. as my name implies, i'm a huge urban fan and deforest kelley fan. he's always been sexier.
When they first cast Karl Urban, I immediately wondered how they were going to have a character as sexy as him portray an average looking guy like McCoy (as portrayed by Kelley). I was a little worried they wouldn’t be able to tone down the sex appeal.
However, the pictures/images released thus far for Urban as McCoy are not sexy to me. I don’t find him very attractive at all in this movie. Compared to the others, he almost seems cardboard. Contrast that with Urban's character in “Chronicles of Riddick” though….he was pretty hot in that movie.
With Chris Pine, he is somewhat attractive in real life photos. He looks pretty good as Kirk too.
All in all, I think they were able to keep Pine’s sex appeal and de-sexy Karl Urban.
I don’t think “de-sexy” is a word, but you get my drift.
Seeing these guys in action during the movie may change my opinion. We haven’t seen a lot of shots of McCoy beyond posing or looking in one direction or another. There have been more action shots of Kirk/Pine.

I love this thread! It never occurred to me that this could be the case but yeah, for once McCoy will be sexier than Kirk... I mean, I'm extremely biased here because I am a HUGE fan of Karl Urban so to me it was a no brainer. Besides, Kirk's still a boy in that timeline whereas McCoy is already a man. 
That being said, I'd jump in bed with New!Kirk any day of the week... Those baby blues just kill me! Chris Pine is just as attractive as his father used to be (actor Robert Pine) back in the old days when he was on CHiPs.

My favourite Karl character. He's so friggin' sexy... *dies* Necromongers totally rule... I wish they were part of the Star Trek universe because they're so bad-ass. But then we already have the Borg who pretty much have the same single-mindedness. Sorry to digress, here, it's the fangirl in me talkin'.
Karl Urban was pretty hot as Eomer as well, although nothing compared to Boromir *sigh*

I didn't even know that was him. That hairdo is even worse than Spock's Moe-Howard look.This is a bit off topic but I just suffered through Smokin' Aces (the first part with all the action is okay) mainly to check out Pine's acting ability. He dresses up a lot like Urban in that photo and has fun playing a grotesque psycho hillbilly assassin. The fact that he can pretty effectively mask his own hotness that way makes me more hopeful that he's a talented guy and won't have any difficultly with Kirk.
