Matt Jefferies and the TOS Enterprise...

Wow I had no idea that the Refit Enterprise was "severely damaged"
Did I miss something?
It is hyperbole, which Paul Olsen seems to have a problem with... the model is actually fine.

A final point on the fate of the 33 inch model... Roddenberry knew for 12 years what had happened to it, but never publicly pointed the finger at Robert Abel and Associates as having destroyed the Enterprise. He left it at I loaned it out and didn't get it back. That to me is quite telling about how Roddenberry saw the final situation. Even though I'm sure he was upset over this, I'd say he mostly forgave the unfortunate incident.

I think Harvey and Shaw should join forces to debunk the myths about the Enterprise model for Harvey's Star Trek Fact Check blog.

I wish I had much to contribute on the subject, but I must confess that I know little about this sector of Star Trek history. I'm just happy to be reading this thread, which has been very informative.

Shaw, I hope you keep writing on this subject. If you ever launch your own blog or website I will surely recommend it.

Of course, if you ever wanted to talk about some sort of collaboration, or just needed someone to dig around in the UCLA files for you, send me a PM.
Thanks for the offer! :techman:

And thanks to everyone for the encouragement! I didn't realize that this many people would be this interested in this stuff. Hopefully I can get some free time in my schedule to write some more tonight.

I do have a generalized (though a little dated) time line of events, but there is more to the story than I have laid out there.

Thanks guys!

I have a few minutes, so we'll pick up with finishing the 33 inch Enterprise...

Does anybody know what happened to the 33" model? When was the last known sighting?

Pretty sweet photo. It show when the Enterprise was still in Captain Pikes hands.:guffaw:

I hope Taylor didn't trash the model as some think--and that Rod has in in some basement, and can have it scanned in secret (still CBS property now if it exists?)

No it would not now be the property of CBS; the smaller miniature was given to Roddenberry by the studio when the show ended.

There's always something so surreal about seeing Hunter and Shatner holding the Enterprise.

It's a shame, to my knowledge, they never did that with Stewart and the small scale D model, just for nostalgia's sake.

I always imagined Scotty had a scale replica of the Enterprise in his office (wherever that might be) and maybe some other ships as well. :)

Paul Olsen recently claimed that Andrew Probert has falsely taken credit for his contributions to the refit design. After Andy posted a rebuttal, the post and all the responses were deleted. Classy... not.

That was lucky timing with the screencap! I'll have to watch watch the video now, what an ... interesting claim

I am so fatigued by members of old productions trying to write others out of history. Whether its the example above, or in music acts such as the Rolling Stones (worst example of all) or the Beatles, its petty, and speaks to the loser nature of anyone who needs to limit or erase others from history.
