MATT DAMON!

so all the rumors we heard two years ago were true. too bad, he would have made a good kirk.

Good thing they didn't hire him...

Not that I don't like him as an actor but he is too well known, too big a name and it would be too...distracting having him play a character like Kirk.
If you know what I mean.

<Charlie Brown voice>: I KNEW IT!!!

Matt Damon was, indeed, approached (as they say in Hollywoodland) for the role of Kirk.

Matt Damon was approached for Star Trek.
From digitalspy.com
So the proof is that one source is quoting another source that's quoting Abrams even though Damon has been specific in interviews that he was never offered the role.

Sorry, until I see something a little more credible, I shall remain skeptical.

Not to mention that he's 38 years old which kind of disqualifies for the role.

It's too bad they never bother to list his reasons for turning down the role. Not that having him cast would improve the story any...

Good movie with Chris Pine instead of Damon, but I think it would have been fun to see him as Kirk.

Eion Bailey was my first choice but Pine's a much better choice than Damon. And I'll bet Damon knew that he was wrong for the part - he had the sense not to frak up the movie and accomplish nothing but pissing off a lot of fanboys. Better to stick with stuff that makes him look good & popular like Jason Bourne.

Matt Damon would have been fine, but if the previews are any indication, I'm good with Chris Pine. I was skeptical when he was announced cus I didn't really even know who he was then. But after seeing the various trailers, I've definitely warmed up to him.

In these types of franchise movie, I think it's best to stick with someone not as well known. Otherwise, people will see <insert famous actor> playing Kirk rather than Kirk in the movie. There are plenty of unknowns who can act the role and the selling point should be the Star Trek label, not the actor playing the captain.

I third that^^^ If I saw MATT DAMON playing Kirk I probably wouldnt be able to stop thinking that he's the guy who does all those James Bond Ripoff movies...errm I mean Bourne...

It would have been interesting to see Matt Damon in Star Trek. On the other hand, we would get countless complaints from Trekkies about his age. "Kirk shouldn't be that old at this point of his career!"

Personally, I am glad Matt did not get the nod. I much prefer an unknown to be cast. I think it will make the movie better since there will be little or no prima dona attitudes to deal with.

So 39 year old Damon was offered the role of Kirk in his twenties?
I have some bank stocks to sell you if you believe that.
