Mass Effect

I'm an obsessive quicksaver, so I honestly never noticed how infrequently ME1 autosaved.

Incidentally I've been playing it too and decided to have a try at an insanity playthrough...so much for that idea! It was going fine up until that bit where two turian assassins attack you outside the bar. No matter what I did I just couldn't kill them. Two sodding turians and I couldn't get past them! Got close a few times, but after 12 reloads I got bored and notched it down to just 'veteran'. Damn I forgot how awkward the combat can be!

Okay....
What "Decision" are we talking about?

Destroying the Collector base or giving it to Cerberus. Early looks at ME3 hint that Cerberus ends up indoctrinated.

Which probably means it'll happen no matter what you did, but at least my Shep will be secure in the knowledge that she totally called it. ;)

WHAT!!!!
...Figures...

Well, I decided to save the rachni and let the queen go, which is a choice that I am sure will effect me later. Also Ashley Williams is a little too provincial for me, so I am going after the cute blue chick. Gotta love hitting on a girl just after her mom died.

I went with Liara on the first play through too, but it really had more to do with playing as a femShep and the only alternative was Lt. Boring McDull. My renegade maleShep on the other hand loved him some gunnery sergeant. ;)

As for the rachni, yeah that is a 'big one' in terms of decisions but like all such decisions in ME, there is no *wrong* one. It's all just about the consequences.

I am thinking my Renagade maleshep will also love some gunnery sargent, but then again, he going to be a little more racist and him and Williams will get along fine. (turns on porn music) Kaiden is rather boring, I don't use him much on away missions...

Poor Liara in the main battle with her mom was hit so she she outside the normal area, so when i used my specter ability to raise my comrads, she still died on the spot. and Garrus was in a exposed spot and the geth snipers would take him down in a second. So that battle till the talk with Laira mom I had to fight it myself, which was fun, as I had to use cover and use good tactics to win.

Well, I spent most of the night playing the Virmire mission.

One word....

EPIC

for those who are counting, I talked wrex down, saved Ashley, and since I watched too much big love (and have gotten to the point where I LIKE Ashley) I tried "both" on the big choice.

Though I saved before Wrex talk, and did get a laugh at the "Evil" line where you shoot wrex down, then say "Well I am doing better then he is." and even had one where Ashley shoots him down without prompting. But my first play was me using my charm to talk him into calming down.

Also even saved the captain from the squads who gave me cover.

Virmire is a great mission, and it was the turning point of the game for me. Up until then, I was almost a pure paragon with only a few transgressions into renegade territory to spice things up. But the way that the Council reacted to that mission really pissed me off, especially after being forced to leave Kaidan behind, so I strayed a little more to the dark side. That's how my main Shep became a Paragade.

By the way, what platform are you playing on? And have you put much thought into DLC missions? Because the DLC for ME1 isn't important, but some of the DLC for ME2 contains vital story material leading into ME3.

One DLC for ME1, "Bring Down the Sky," is pretty fun and does get mentioned in ME2. The other one is a total waste of time, though, from what I've heard.

I just started a new femShep. I usually pick a manShep Soldier so this time I picked infiltrator.
gotta say I'm enjoying Hale's voice work over Meer's
gonna be more of a renegade on this playthrough as well

I found Bring Down the Sky a little disappointing, it's pretty much a long Mako side-quest that has one extra room. The only thing of note in it is that it shows the Batarians for the first time. As for Pinnacle Station, I never played it. The idea of a combat-oriented mission with almost no story in a game where the combat is fairly clunky didn't appeal.

DH, ME2's DLC is much better, I'd say that all the mission DLC is worthwhile. But if time or money are a factor, then just try to get Lair of the Shadow Broker and Arrival. And if you do get them, it's probably a good idea not to install those two until after you've finished the main story, otherwise they'll pop up in the middle of the game even though they make much more sense when played after the final mission.

I can't say as I found BDtS disappointing as when I bought ME (in a Steam sale) it was already out and I had no expectations. Still I'd say it was slightly better than the average side mission...which is still pretty weak. Apparently that "extra room" wasn't even made especially for the DLC but an unused map from the main game. Supposedly the mission where you get Liara was supposed to take place on a hub world like on Noveria and that was supposed to be the hub. It shows too as you can see where the shops, med center and offices were supposed to be.

I've seen a playthrough of Pinnacle Station on youtube and it really doesn't look worth the money. Hell, it hardly looks like it's worth the time were it a freebie. What really confuses me to this day is why the DLC with at least some semblance of story was free while the stripped down combat only one cost money.

As for the ME2 DLC, I agree with TGB. If you only buy one (if any) buy Lair of the Shadow Broker. It's actually better than most of the game's main missions.

Well, I decided that I am at least going to do two ME playthoughs before playing ME2.

(Current male shep) Xavier Shep - "what would Picard do" upright officer who tries to keep as much stuff alive as he can.

Female Shep - A cross between Sisko and Sheridan who goes for the bad-ass....

Then after playing those though ME and then ME2, I will do a evil one.

So far my only regret is I think I should of picked Ashley, I picked "both" and got the alien instead. Then again since he a alien liker, that make sense. The funny thing is steam keeps track of how long you played, and I have something like 24 hours into it.

Really? Well, that explains why they built an empty shopping centre on a lifeless asteroid. I always find it strange that games get released with things like that still on the disc. It would have been nice if they had re-jiggered some of the side-missions to take place in that room, then we would have had four locations for them and they would have seemed slightly less repetitive.

I'm still replaying ME1 and these side missions are annoying me. I'm playing them all because I'm a completionist and I need the XP and upgrades, but they're so boring. :sigh: ME1 may have had the better story, but stuff like this is why I much prefer ME2.

My main Shep picked "both" and he ended up with Ashley. The interesting thing is that I got the vibe that Liara is still attracted to him in ME2, but I might just be imagining that.

I wanted to do and "Xavier" Shepperd but went for "Lorenzo" "Lief" and 3 women. "Kureni", "Kassc" and "Aaliyah".http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaliyah
