Mass Effect

Distorted Humor

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
Playing though the Mass effect series for the first time...

Just started off, have a male Shepperd who a Colonist/Sole Survivor/soldier who has run around the Citadel for a good bit and now also has the ship and picked up Liaria<sp>

Not bad for a few hours work :bolian:

Not bad indeed. Next playthrough, I recommend you leave Liara's mission as long as possible. You get some funny dialogue as she's been stuck in that thing for weeks and thinks you're an hallucination. ;)

For my first playthrough I did a female Earthborn/sole survivor/soldier. I think just about everyone plays as a soldier the first time out. Biotic and tech powers take some getting used to, but weapons are always familiar.

:guffaw:on the Hallucination!

I plan to do two runthoughs, one male, one female, then go to Mass effect 2. I can see the Babylon 5 feel that some recommended.

There's definitely a B5 vibe to it, and a Star Trek vibe, and a Star Wars vibe, and a BSG vibe... they pretty much took elements from various popular sci-fi universes, threw in some of their own stuff and stirred it into one delicious serving.

I think the important question we all want to know is this: Who do you intend to bone? :p Ashley comes across as ever so slightly racist, but with her hair down she's something of a hottie, while Liara is quite cute, but I prefer to save her for my femShep. Purely to piss off Fox News, of course. :shifty:

One piece of advice I'll give you: Own your mistakes. There may be times when you'll make a bad call and you'll want to reload and try again, but it's more fun to let those mistakes be and see how they impact the story in the sequels. For example, at the end of ME2 I made a decision that, based on the info that has come out so far about ME3, appears to have been a HUGE mistake that could make my struggle to save the galaxy even more difficult. But that was my decision and I plan to live with the consequences.

(Oh, and I was a manShep/Colonist/War Hero/Soldier.)

Is it wrong for me to LMAO at the people who kept going on about how people should have made that choice and that not doing so means you're screwed in ME3, now that this appears not to be the case and in fact its the other way around?

Defiantly agreed about living with the decisions. I'm not much of an RPG gamer (though between Mass Effect, Dragon Age and Fallout I've probably played more in the last few years than the previous twenty) but when I do I always go with my gut on the first play through. I think it's even more important with ME as you'll get to carry all of those accumulated decisions through the entire trilogy.

That doesn't mean to say of course than I won't tailor things a little in later play-throughs. ;)

All told I think I have about 6 Sheps (one of each class) though most are femsheps (much prefer Hale's voice work.) One even boned Kaiden against my better judgement...just for the sake of doing something different. I think I only have one that I didn't finish the ME2 play through on. Aside from being a little burnt out of the game by the time the Arrival DLC...um...'arrived'...I plan on saving that one until the lead up to ME3.

As far as *THAT* decision goes (he said trying not to spoil two things for DH in as many days) I think my main Shep made the right call. I had a feeling doing otherwise would bite me in the arse. ;)

Thanks for not spoiling, my current Maleshep is playing the upright officer, More moral then I am in real life, though at times he in the conversation when he knows its going to be a fight, he will pull out and shoot.

Next run though will be a FemShep at "MY morality level"

Then I will play a evil bastard/bitch. And yes, no reloading, even if I paint myself in a corner :)

As who to bone, my Maleshep Thinks that Ashley while cute and not a bad fighter, is not as opened minded as he is. Though the consort did throw him a bone.

The Lt. Kyle bit battle was tough as heck, but after the third or fourth time, I survived and kicked some tail. and thanks for not spoiling :)

And giggle, just earned my first renegade points, as I was NOT going to be disarmed, I'm a Specter and I am not going to allow some private security company girl to order me to disarm :guffaw:

But of course. Part of the fun of replays is to try different outcomes. In fact, this thread makes me want to play the game again as a complete renegade manShep, but I'm not sure if I want to play it this far out from ME3's release.

Ah, screw it, I can always play it a fifth time before release!

I thought that they were going for an In the Pale Moonlight kinda thing where you do something morally questionable for the sake of the galaxy. DS9 trained me poorly for life in the ME universe. :(

Plus, I have trouble saying no to Martin Sheen.

You can't really paint yourself into a corner, at least not in the first two games. But you can fall into a situation where a character you like dies or where you do something that causes the alien races to become suspicious or outright racist towards humanity. Then again, you might actually want those things to happen. ;) For example, my renegade femShep absolutely hated Tali for some reason, so she ruined her life.

As who to bone, my Maleshep Thinks that Ashley while cute and not a bad fighter, is not as opened minded as he is.
Yeah, but you can make her more open minded. By having sex with her.

Okay, maybe not.

My main femShep is a bit like that. It helps that being Earthborn she's basically a reformed hoodlum/street rat but while she has a strong moral compass, she's not above decking someone that pisses her off (you know who I mean.) Girl has anger issues.

That's the consort for you, she throws everyone a "bone."

You may be glad to know that for ME2 they TOTALLY overhauled the combat system and AI. No more useless cover and enemies swarming you mindlessly. They also cut out these copy/paste side missions where you visit the exact same prefab colony/bunker/freighter/mineshaft over and over and over...

In a rare convergence of intent and result, my thoughts at the time were pretty much what Shep's dialogue turned out to be after I selected the option: "you're completely ruthless. next thing you'll be wanting to build your own reaper."

Reaper tech, even *dead* Reaper tech has consistently proven to be extremely insidious and pervasive. A whole base full of the stuff? Noooo way!...of course that didn't stop my renegade, council murdering, Rachni exterminating, pro-Terra Firma maleShep. ;)

I had similar thoughts plus Cerberus has never had a project that didn't go horrifically wrong in the game even in the DLC

Sure, it was heavy risk, but the priiiiiiize... ;)

Is the Reapers being able to build more of themselves to saend to kill you while Cerberus hunts you down for their new space squid machine overlords

Well, Kinda peeved, I am on the snow mission, and get all the way to the boss fight with the matriarch voiced by i think Sirtis of TNG fame, and I was glitched. So I had to reload...

at the point I hadn't even turned on the reactor...so I lost at least a hour of playtime. Gaaa...

Yeah, that just about covers the risk part. :alienblush: Oops.

I was just playing ME1 earlier and realised that my previous autosave was 45 minutes prior. I forgot how poor the autosave feature was in ME1. Thankfully, in ME2 it is much better and you rarely lose more than 5 minutes of playtime.

OMG HARDCORE HUMAN ON BLUE ALIEN SIDE BOOB ACTION :scream:
Don't forget the blue ass! They weren't fans of that either.

I'm an obsessive quicksaver, so I honestly never noticed how infrequently ME1 autosaved.

Incidentally I've been playing it too and decided to have a try at an insanity playthrough...so much for that idea! It was going fine up until that bit where two turian assassins attack you outside the bar. No matter what I did I just couldn't kill them. Two sodding turians and I couldn't get past them! Got close a few times, but after 12 reloads I got bored and notched it down to just 'veteran'. Damn I forgot how awkward the combat can be!

Okay....
What "Decision" are we talking about?

Destroying the Collector base or giving it to Cerberus. Early looks at ME3 hint that Cerberus ends up indoctrinated.

Which probably means it'll happen no matter what you did, but at least my Shep will be secure in the knowledge that she totally called it. ;)

Well, I decided to save the rachni and let the queen go, which is a choice that I am sure will effect me later. Also Ashley Williams is a little too provincial for me, so I am going after the cute blue chick. Gotta love hitting on a girl just after her mom died.

Did you get to the point where an Elcor squadmate gets tossed into your romancing mix yet?

Kidding...that doesn't actually happen but it would be cool. Having an Elcor squadmate, not boning one of them.
