Mass Effect: ANDROMEDA

Couldnt agree more. Through I really do believe they have something substantial planned.

Plus, while EA talked about how they would be willing to delay the release, various devs on twitter have continuted to say spring 2017. So it sounds hopeful that everything is still on track.

^There are other reasons to delay release than to give the devs more time to finish the game. Just like with movies, sometimes it's prudent to avoid directly competing with another popular title, so EA are just keeping their options open.

Well a lot of that seemed...awfully familiar. Not-Collectors and Not-Reapers in Not-Prothean ruins? Honestly I was hoping for something a little fresher.

Not that I'm writing it off or anything. It still looks fun and very cool.

But wait.... there's more!

Looks good but show me dialog wheels and characters instead of action scenes.
Do they not realize what Mass Effect is about?

And please, for the love of the Hanar god... don't make me build outposts, Assassins-Creed-Style. Just give me cool characters and a nice story, not a stupid repetitive time sink.

Disappointed. Was hoping for either an HD remaster or backwards compatibility for the second and third games on current gen consoles.

I completely ignored the settlement building in Fallout 4. It was so dull and repetitive.

They just announced today that 2 and 3 are backwards compatible on XBone TODAY!

They don't show it in that video, but on the site there are some little info box pop ups that give a little extra trivia. One of them is that the launch date for the Arks is 2185, which means contrary to my previous assumptions, it doesn't coincide with the reapers arrival at all but instead overlaps with the latter part of ME2. So it seems literally nothing we did in ME3 (or perhaps even ME2) matters in the slightest to this game. They've functionally and literally abandoned that part of the story.

Also, N7 guy (aka Daddy Ryder) is a veteran explorer who was part of Grissom's initial expedition though the Charon relay. So there's that.

Well cinematic trailers do traditionally come first. A more in depth look at gameplay comes later.
Really though what do you think you're likely to see with dialogue wheel footage that we don't already know? Aside from some mechanical minutia, they're pretty much stayed the same through all five games Bioware has used them in.

Personally, I'd rather see what they're doing with the class & powers systems. I don't need to see that there's going to be conversations, because I know that already. Indeed, we've seen an auto-dialogue one already with the 4K demo.

I don't disagree, but I also don't think it's terribly likely. Depending on how the open world planetary exploration is handled, I'd guess they'll do something akin to DAI's campsites. Just QT & resupply checkpoints you discover as you naturally explore.

because of course the reason Emi wanted to see dialog wheels is because she is not sure how they're going to work

And I guess the reason you want to see combat is that you're not sure how it's going to work? ;)

Click -> Shoot.

In all honesty I was hoping for them to focus on dialog and characters because one of the biggest criticisms of Mass Effect 3 was that the dialogs often didn't have proper consequences and unlike previous games there wasn't always actual different options.
I know it's hard to properly show that in trailers, I was just hoping they'd throw us a bone. ;)

Well, the digital copy is now pre-orderable on Origin - three different versions - Standard, Deluxe, and Super Deluxe (difference between the latter two seems to be multiplayer equipment packs - although I'm not sure it's worth the extra £15...):

Mass Effect: Andromeda takes you to the Andromeda galaxy, far beyond the Milky Way. There, you'll lead our fight for a new home in hostile territory - where WE are the aliens.

Play as the Pathfinder - a leader of a squad of military-trained explorers - with deep progression and customisation systems. This is the story of humanity’s next chapter, and your choices throughout the game will ultimately determine our survival in the Andromeda Galaxy.

As you unfold the mysteries of the Andromeda Galaxy and the hope for humanity lies on your shoulders – You must ask yourself… How far will you go?

Key Features:

Be the Pathfinder. Chart your own course in a dangerous new galaxy. Unravel the mysteries of the Andromeda galaxy as you discover rich, alien worlds in the search for humanity’s new home.

Return to the Mass Effect universe you love. Lead the first humans in Andromeda on a desperate search for our new home. In this new chapter of Mass Effect, meet and recruit all-new, interesting characters caught up in an epic space saga filled with mystery and galactic conflict.

Battle like never before. New additions like destructible environments, boosted jumps for added verticality, and all-new weapons and Biotics make combat more thrilling than ever.

Play your way. Build a formidable hero with amazing weapons, powers and tech. With a much more flexible skill and weapon progression tree, you can replicate your play style to make you unstoppable against powerful alien enemies.

Join the APEX Forces. Multiplayer in Mass Effect Andromeda places you into a class-based, 4-player co-op fire-team experience. Team up with three of your friends to take on the enemy threat and protect the interests of the Andromeda Initiative.

Also, since it was N7 Day yesterday, as is my usual habit, I jumped onto ME3 multiplayer for a bit. Three fun matches that popped up straight away. I had forgotten just how hectic it can be, even on Bronze...
