Mass Effect: ANDROMEDA

I finally got to update the Known Features thread on BioWare's forums. I was as giddy over that as I was over new content.

This game is taking a long time to come out. :P

^ Agreed. Would have loved to have seen the "Trial of Shepard" that was envisioned for the beginning and of course, the ending.

Oh, I've no qualms.

That written, this game is taking longer for several reasons, I presume. Much work is being done by a new studio. Many of the folks in pivotal positions are relative newcomers. The (very) loose "trilogy vision" is behind us. An entirely new cast needs writing, tweaking.

I think it's grand that the game is getting the time it needs, but I won't be shocked if there still manage to be areas that feel rushed. Inquisition had those, too.

I want a reaper squadmate
Harbinger: HUMAN.
Player: Just looking for your thoughts on the mission.
Harbinger: YOU CANNOT COMPREHEND MY THOUGHTS.
Player: (Sarcastically) Maybe it would help if you talk slowly.
Harbinger: YOU DARE MOCK A BEING INFINITELY YOUR GREATER?
Player: Jeez, lighten up. If we're going to work together we have to learn to trust one another.
Harbinger: TRUST IS IRRELEVANT. THERE IS ONLY THE MISSION.
Player: Don't you have any friends? Amongst the Reapers, I mean.
Harbinger: EACH OF US IS A NATION. THERE IS NO NEED FOR FRIENDSHIP.
Player: Sounds lonely.
Harbinger: IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR YOUR KIND TO UNDERSTAND.
Player: I'd like to try.
Harbinger: WHY ARE YOU SO INTERESTED IN ME?
Player: Because you fascinate me, Harbie. I've never met a man quite like you.
Harbinger: YOU FASCINATE ME TOO, HUMAN. A REAPER SHOULD NOT THINK THAT WAY, BUT I CANNOT HELP MYSELF.
Player: Maybe we could get a... drink some time.
Harbinger: I WOULD LIKE THAT. BUT I NEED SOME TIME TO PROCESS MY THOUGHTS.
Player: Talk to you later.
I hate you so much right now

Just be glad I didn't script out the sex scene. I was thinking it would be heavy on the sadomasochism and would feature liberal use of YOU WILL KNOW PAIN, HUMAN and THIS HURTS YOU.

LOL only if Harbinger were having sex with Miranda Lawson...

The size difference alone :O

Several mods on the Mass Effect subreddit were contacted by someone who claims to have access to an early build of ME: Andromeda. They weren't shown any evidence of the game, but they were apparently able to confirm the leaker's identity and believe the information may well be genuine. So file all this under 'rumour' for now.

The gist of the info, copied from the reddit thread:

  • 2 Squad mates as before, a human blonde and a krogan mentioned
  • All squad mates have jetpacks which come into play in exploration
  • Omnitool has more functionality, for example a combat shield
  • Greater detail in character facial features and models
  • Destructible covers (Yay Frostbite!)
  • Completely different ship (I take it as a step away from the frigate sized ship that we saw in Normandy and towards a larger ship, perhaps the one seen here )
  • Hints at Mako customization
  • 'Pathfinder quarters' section in the ship
  • Main character is referred to as 'the pathfinder'
  • Story revolves around finding a new home for humanity and other races
  • New ship travel system (Instead of the old galaxy map) where you manually fly the ship
  • Enemies (the main opposing force I assume) are bipedal cross between Vorcha and Collectors
  • The (non-human) enemies drop into combat from Cerberus ships (I would assume a placeholder, but if it's not then it gets interesting)
  • One of the antagonists is a human soldier with armor similar to yours but without N7 insignia

Looks a bit suspicious on the face of it given that with the odd embellishment, just about everything there can be extrapolated from the two teasers and the snippets of footage/concept art that's come out and the things the devs have said along the way.

Either way, I'd rather find things out at the pace Bioware chooses. Supposedly the early ME3 code leak is one of the reasons they rushed a re-write of the ending and we know how that went. Probably best to ignore it is all I'm saying.

There's very little new information in there, honestly. It's mostly rewording of various things we already knew.

That written, I have it on good terms that the bulk of this, at least, is genuine -- which strongly suggests the rest is, too.

The general belief is that the characters in the upcoming game left for Andromeda at a time when Earth, and the whole Milky Way for that matter, were pretty much screwed and all hope was lost. So odds are, are far as the people in Andromeda are concerned, Earth is lost.

I was reading the official XBox Magazine about Halo 5. If I had not played the game beforehand, I would have been both disappointed and bewildered. According to the magazine, the Chief and his team attacked a peace treaty conference and took the human ambassador hostage. Following this, the Chief and his team were hunted by Osiris Team. Of course, nothing of this occurred, or even mentioned, in the game. Something major happen in the development of the game which resulted in this storyline being dropped.

My point is this - I will not believe what a game will be until after it has been released. However, I can see that Mass Effect: Andromeda is being derivative of other games. Hopefully, Bioware can bring in some innovations to the game.

I find it amusing.

All the advertising for Halo 5 is the exact opposite to what the game is. Most amusing.

Why is this?

Why do we have to leave Earth?

Is Earth not saved?

From the last teaser and a little common sense it seems like they left the Milky-way either before or during the Reaper War and it was probably meant to be a one-way trip.

Besides, it's a colony mission, even if going back to Earth were a possibility, it sort of defeats the purpose of going in the first place.

Most of that sounds very (almost too) plausible in terms of focus grouping the shit out of these aspects.

I'm sure that would test very well with their intended demos.

Increased mobility is inevitable as well for a contemporary shooter-based action game.

Any increased mobility function probably has more to do with the supposed open world gameplay than being a "modern shooter". After all, it's what prompted them to put mounts and the ability to jump in Dragon Age.

Mind you, it was something they already toyed with in ME3's MP kits.

^ I really don't see how. It's just logical that they'd include a means to get around better if they're going with more open areas as opposed to the corridors with knee-high walls school of level design.

It's the same reason the Mako in ME1 had those janky thrusters so you can (if you're lucky) extricate yourself if you get wedged in a crevice or if you need to get over a little ridge without the damn thing getting stuck.

And, like I said it was why they also put mounts and the ability to jump in DAI.

That whole plot makes no sense...

Earth wasn't destroyed in the war or afterwards, so why leave the entire galaxy, and there's like 99% of uncharted space inside our own galaxy.

Oh and Mac Walters trying to shove Cerberus into this game WTF?
