Spoilers Marvel's Echo on Disney+

My issue with that is it'll just paint any level of oversight as "criminals getting control" and the only solution is unchecked vigilantism. Its bogus
It's not like the basics of the superhero genre? Virtually every superhero is an unchecked vigilante.

Idk, I don't think it's impossible

Although I'd say I'd rather see a vigilante superhero at least not be the typical cop-lite. They always act like victims of authority but often end up enforcing the status quo.

Varies from character to character. "Character finds themselves on the outs with the law" is a well-worn trope. Even straight arrows like Supes and Cap use that one.

In the comics, Batman and Robin were first deputized by Commissioner Gordon around 1942-3, IIRC. In contrast to modern expectations, Batman and Robin became wholesome authority figures at a point when Superman was still being written as an outlaw vigilante officially hunted (though unofficially admired) by the police.

I feel so sorry for Alaqua Cox. It's obvious that the producers didn't put much effort into "Echo". Worse, it seems as if Feige and Disney were simply using it as a stepping stone for a comback of the "Daredevil" series.

How is it "obvious"?

Per Forbes:
"Marvel has a hit on its hands with Echo, the MA-rated superhero venture starring Alaqua Cox that performed well on both Hulu and Disney Plus, and did so with a budget of $40 million, less than 20% of some of the MCU’s enormous, unwieldy series like She-Hulk and Secret Invasion."

Even nicer is that Hollywood reporter is saying how thrilled everyone is that Echo's "halo effect" is bumping numbers for Hawkeye and the Netlfix seasons of Daredevil and Punisher.

"Marvel is interested in doing more with the character and is already developing new ideas as it seeks to build out its street-level heroes."

Why do we feel sorry for the well earned success of Alaqua Cox again?

And the show was a great presentation of her and the character, giving her a ton of action, character development, and backstory. Not really sure why we should feel sorry for her, most new actors would kill to get a show like Echo as their second acting gig.

As long as she got paid there is no need to feel sorry.

Why?

Did she not get paid? If she didn't, then I'll feel bad.

Or just paid gig in general.

It's odd the things we feel sorry for.

Spoken like someone who hasn't read the rest of the thread or any review of the show which is really some kind of "MARVEL FAILED AGAIN" clickbait.

As others have already pointed out, this show has resonated in numerous metrics. Just because you don't think it was very good and "merely" acted as a stepping stone to Born Again doesn't make it a failure.

It's definitely something I've noticed recently where people who don't like something declare it a failure regardless of how it actually performed. *

Same thing happened with the recent Doctor Who Specials, which were the most watched in years.

*Conversely, I've also seen the opposite with people trying to claim Aquaman 2 wasn't a failure.
