Marvel/Netflix Daredevil season 2.

I've never understood why so many people are uncomfortable with sex on TV either and in all the years I've been arguing about it, I've never gotten a clear answer that clicks with me. The best I could gather is that sex is too personal and violence isn't. Perhaps someone could elaborate on that. What also puzzles me is when people say that certain sex scenes aren't necessary to the plot. The problem with that is that there are a lot of things that aren't necessary to the plot so why single out the sex?

Violence isn't personal? It's usually permanent, if not personal.

I may go out on a limb here but i think it's more the american view of sex in entertainment that is not porn.. you can dismember, shoot up or beat up people all day long (and keep it PG13 as long as there is not too much blood) but show a bare female chest or even outright sex (even half covered by bed sheets) and you lose your mind thinking your kids are now on their way to become hookers and drug users.

The sex scene in Daredevil season 2 didn't bother me in the least.. it fit within the story and you barely got to see anything. A bare back and some female breats covered in shadow.. that's it. I've seen more explicit things in readily available news magazines.

Personally i believe it's about people feeling uncomfortable having to explain this to their children (as many parents may feel) so instead of getting over themselves and explaining a perfectly natural biological and physical function and the assoicated emotional elements without feeling shame or any other kind of negative feeling (very clinically put) they'd rather not deal with it at all and so they make a big enough stink to remove this "filth" altogether because they can't deal with it. It's not logical, at times it's even dangerous when they let their kids reach puberty and be well into it and not explaining to them the dangers of sex and the responsibilities and letting them figure it out on their own 1950s style with all sideffects like STDs and teen pregnancy (thank god we now have the internet so at least they may be able to get some facts for themselves if they want and not be totally in the dark).

Sorry for the discourse, it's just that i don't understand the american puritanism when it comes to sex.

In this case, for me, it wasn't that they showed a sex scene at all...it's that it went on awkwardly long for the amount that they were willing to get into it, to the point that it felt voyeuristic. Sex is an intimate act...in this context, I didn't feel the need to peep in on these two people sharing such an intimate moment for as long as the show lingered on it.

But look at all the emotionally intimate stuff that drama is built around. Imagine how uncomfortable and voyeuristic you'd feel eavesdropping on two best friends having an argument that led to the dissolution of their law partnership, or two romantic partners breaking up, or a widow recounting the tragic death of his family before his eyes, or a penitent confessing to a priest. Those are all very intimate things -- in many ways, they're more emotionally intimate than the act of sex would be in a lot of cases. All fiction is voyeuristic. It's all about getting entertainment from the private lives and personal drama of fictional people in a way that would be invasive and rude to do with real people.

Everyone's entitled to varying mileage in something like this. I'm not trying to convince anyone here who enjoyed the scene that they shouldn't have. But you're not going to convince me that I shouldn't feel that it was awkwardly gratuitous.

I don't even really remember there being a sex scene, beyond a vague recollection of one. Certainly not one worthy of someone ranting about it. So as far as I'm concerned, if you are ranting about it, you were just looking for something to rant about.

Anyway, I enjoyed the second season. Like most Marvel shows, it started off better than it ended, but it was a fun ride nonetheless. When I realized why one of the episodes was entitled "Seven Minutes of Heaven," I had a good laugh, too.

Also, ten bucks says Erynys is going to be the big bad (or one of them anyway) next season.

Some posters in these parts rant. Some are just trying to have a mature, reasonable discussion. If somebody sees my attempt at the latter as ranting, then that probably says more about them than it does about me.

You must not watch HBO, Starz, Showtime, ect. I haven't made it to the scene in question yet, but I doubt it's anywhere near as long or gratuitous as the ones in their shows.

I saw no rant. That said, I liked the sex scene. It was presented as art, not a skin-flick. There were quite a few bits like that that I enjoyed, where the show just takes a moment to be beautiful.

I miss the purple light in Matt's apartment. It was a nice contrast to every other window being lit with yellow.

I didn't care for the sickly Matrix green in Matt's apartment scenes and elsewhere in the show (even in the forest where Karen and Castle were in the last couple of episodes. I don't get why that unpleasant green tinge has been so popular with cinematographers since The Matrix. It served a purpose there, but it's just been used gratuitously in so many things since.

Mr. Sunday Movies released an Easter Egg and reference video. He always does a good job finding these little nuggets.

Wow, this Punisher always seems like he's a second away from sobbing like a baby, or having a temper tantrum. I really want to see Thomas Jane's Punisher come in a kick this idiots face in. I think I'm about done with this series. Episode 4 is terrible, and spoilers show that they got Elektra almost as wrong as they got Jessica Jones (although making Elektra obviously not Greek but still keeping the greek name might actually push her into being less like her character then Jessica Jones, now that I think about it). I never would have thought that Jennifer Gardner would be the best Elektra, but somehow the level of fail in DD season two is huge. After 4 episodes, this season seems to be written worse then the DD movie or even the Elektra movie, and Elektra was a very mediocre movie. Such a huge fall, its almost like the Jessica Jones people are making this season of Daredevil.

Oh, well. It saves me 9 hours of time to quit now, and maybe Luke Cage will be made by competent people, like Daredevil Season 1 had. Hopefully they'll eventually recast Punisher like they did Bruce Banner, and do something decent with him. Elektra's characterization has basically killed her potential, though, which sucks. I wish the movie people had authority over the Netflix people, then we'd probably get some great stuff.

I'm glad your done with this series, because I'm done reading your posts. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion but yours is so completely opposite from the vast majority of people that the most likely options seem like you are not watching the same show everyone else is or you're just a troll. So bye bye.

I couldn't disagree more. About Punisher, about Elektra. And the quality of the program as a whole. Also, you and I have apparently been reading about very different characters in the comics.

But yes, I'm glad that Punisher wasn't a one note Terminator ripoff, and actually had to confront the real emotional fallout of having his family brutally murdered in front of him. And I'm intrigued that you can label Elektra's potential "killed" when you didn't even watch more than one scene of her in the season.

Sucks that you didn't enjoy the show, not everything is for everybody. But please stop accusing people of being incompetent just because you didn't like their product. Liking it is a matter of taste, not quality. Just because you don't enjoy the thing doesn't mean it's poorly made. Frankly, it makes your criticisms difficult to take seriously when you launch personal attacks at the people behind the show. Don't like the thing? Want to criticize creative decisions? Go ahead. But the people behind the show are perfectly competent, and deserve respect for what they've accomplished, even if you didn't enjoy it.
