Marvel/Netflix Daredevil Season 1

The most hilarious reveal in the wiki I read was that Stiltman had a set of Adamantium powerstilts.

Superstilts?

We saw Stilts in Melvin's workshop.

Handled correctly, a Stiltman battle could be epic.

Has Stiltman ever fought Giant-Man or one of those lot?

Jon Bernthal of The Walking Dead reportedly playing the Punisher in season 2.

no reportly about it:

Jon Bernthal (“Wolf of Wall Street,” “The Walking Dead, ” “Fury”) joins the upcoming season of “Marvel’s Daredevil,” streaming only on Netflix in 2016!

Bernthal will portray The Punisher, one of Marvel’s most popular characters. He is a vigilante who aims to clean up New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen by any means necessary, no matter how lethal the results.

^When I first posted the news, the CBR article was the only spot that I could find the news being reported, and they didn't have a source. I generally trust CBR, but I've accidentally posted unconfirmed rumors before and just wanted to hedge my bets.

Yeah sorry - just wanted to update to say it's been confirmed - poor wording on my part.

I'm not crazy about the idea of the Punisher joining the MCU, since I'm not fond of lethal "vigilantes" like him. But given that Daredevil is the first MCU hero who really seems to have a committed no-killing policy, I suppose his show is probably the best place to feature such a character without glorifying or legitimizing his methods.

Stoked about this. Punisher should work much better as a secondary character on tv than as the star of a film. In a film they have to make it an "event" like the '04 version where they do the origin (in which case it's not punishment, it's revenge) or in War Zone where he's trying to go straight. But on tv you can just have him be the Punisher.

This is great news. If Daredevil and Punisher have a relationship half as good as the one Greg Rucka and Mark Waid wrote in "The Omega Drive" crossover between the eponymous titles back in 2012, then it will be spectacular. I highly recommend reading it, you can find it in this TPB.

Sort of an interesting choice. Does he have an actual southern accent like he did in Walking Dead? I don't think I've seen him in anything else.

How much head-rubbing in frustration and/or thought will he do?

;)

But Marvel's been pretty spot-on with their casting so far, really, I don't think there's been any complaint on their casting/take of characters. So he's likely going to turn out to be a great choice.

Not a fan of The Punisher either, like Christopher I'm not a "fan" of the lethal-vigilante justice he goes for. The other Marvel heroes certainly take lethal action when called for, but usually against enemy combatants. But Castle is lethal on a street-level/urban environment. That's a touch harder to "get behind" for me, no matter how terrible of people he's put up against. And it's one thing to kill him self-defense or defense of others; it's a whole other to kill out of vengeance/anger.

It'll be interesting to see how it is handled, but I'm certainly watching DD-S2 and will likely check out any spin off Castle gets because, well, at this point I have a lot of faith in Marvel.

I've been avoiding the thread until I finish the series, but I did want to just pipe in and say I'm really excited about this. I don't really know much about The Punisher, but Bernthal was great on TWD, and Daredevil does seem like a good fit for the character.

Honestly, I think "The Punisher" is an incongruous name for such a violent vigilante. It makes him sound like someone who goes around making criminals sit in the corner or go to their rooms without supper.

Keep in mind that, in the Daredevil comic, the Punisher is an antagonist who is often opposed by Daredevil. In fact, all the stories I remember involve Daredevil trying to stop him rather than team up. Maybe there's something recent I'm unaware of, but I'm thinking of "Child's Play" by Frank Miller and "The Bully" by Ann Nocenti.

That's the role I prefer to see him in -- as a misguided villain rather than an antihero. He was, of course, created as an adversary for Spider-Man, though I can see why he, like the Kingpin, would fit more naturally into Daredevil's world.

When DD & Punisher Team Up it's usually a very begrudgingly agreed upon short term situation. See Shivkala's recent example from a few years ago, Omega Effect.
