I most prefer the Buffy the Vampire Slayer style where there is always a season long arc but most episodes are still clearly stand-alone even when they advance the season arc forward. (DS9 came close to that as well in the later seasons.)

I guess she's not playing Jean Gray as was rumored then.
I guess they could be introducing Jean in a Spider-Man movie.

Although she could be Gwen, or if she kept her hair color red go with Firestar.

I'm not sure how I feel about her as Jean though. I think she'd be a better Kitty Pryde (and there actually was the Peter/Kitty relationship in the Ultimate universe)

Yeah, she's definitely not MJ.

Probably either Gwen or Felicia, or we're all completely off-base thinking she'll be the female lead and it's just some side role.

Though I like the idea of her being Firestar.

I can see the logic of not bringing back any of the supporting characters in the new movie. With people's memories erased it is a chance to basically show how much his life has changed. How lonely he is.

That's still one of her rumored roles, and IGN pointed out that Feige did announce that the next few movies would be introducing X-Men characters.

Zendaya was Mary Jane, I doubt they'll recast. Considering the ending of No Way Home, it would be ok to move on from that part of Spider-Man from now on.
I could have sworn they had announced that Zendaya and Jacob Batalon were both coming back. While my first thought would be Mary Jane, it would be weird for them to introduce a second MJ Watson, when Zendaya is Michelle Jones-Watson. Technically she's not the same character, but it seems like Zendaya's MJ is more or less a new version of Mary Jane, just with a different name. But a Spider-Man movie seems like kind of an odd place to introduce Jean since as far as I know the characters have no connection in the comics, except for maybe the occasional team with Spider-Man and the X-Men.

Technically, she wasn't.

Meh. Basically she was. If they're gonna go for another MJ again people are gonna call it lame Peter wll for her because's she's another MJ.
I guess I'm just not 'comic hard core' enough.

She was MJ, end of story.

It's also past 10PM in the Netherlands and I gotta an early morning for work. The hater comments should be amazing when I wake in the morning.

Technically, she wasn't.
Technically Marisa Tomei wasn't playing Uncle Ben, but that didn't stop her dying while giving Peter the 'Great Power' speech. Putting a new interesting spin on familiar elements has been the rule for this incarnation of Spidey, and I don't see any reason why they'd suddenly switch back to word perfect faithfulness to the comics.

So Gwen or Felica as a red head? Why the hell not?!

That said, after hearing Peter #3's backstory, you'd think Peter #1 would very deliberately stay way the hell away from anyone named "Gwen", for basically the same reason he chose not to reconnect with MJ and Ned.

Firestar isn't a terrible idea, but part of me feels like if they're going to introduce Gwen into the MCU, at this point she's probably going to be Spider-Gwen/Spider-Woman/Ghost-Spider/Gwenpool/Whatever-Spider right from the jump, and if they're going to do a second possible love interest super/anti-hero, Black Cat is probably going to beat out Firestar if only to show up DC who can never seem to get Selina quite right.
After the success of the Spider-verse movies, relegating her back to just a civilian love interest role would seem like a let down.

Also having a potential love interest (or better yet; platonic friend of the opposite sex) already in the life would be something new for the MCU outside of Bruce and Nat's vague flirting.
