I meant to say it (I was in a rush when I posted) but pun very much intended.Nice (and relevant!) pun!
Finally had the chance to watch this panel (but not the rest of them yet...) but man, I'm loving the camaraderie of the entire cast, but I especially love the raw chemistry between Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford.
The trash talk is getting real lol
Anthony Mackie to Tom Holland:
"He said I didn't have a movie. I said, 'Well, you're not 5'11". I got a movie, you're not gonna be 5'11" though! Yes, Tom Holland, fuck you!"
"That's Harrison Ford! Tell Tom Holland I got Harrison Ford!"
Which is from one of the comics I heard. So they’re gonna do the small scar that Doom’s ego can’t handle rather than hideously disfigured?
It will be interesting if Evans returns in the Cap role, and how Disney will twist and squirm attempting to justify what one might assume would be the removal of Mackie as Cap, especially after the entire build up--selling Wilson's case--to represent the American superhero as a black American. Even having two Caps in the same universe would amount to the same perception of undervaluing a black Captain America, much like the vocal part of the MCU fanbase who gnash collective teeth at the idea of Cap being anyone other than a white male.
I wonder if RDJ would be willing to go full
“Wade Wilson” like Reynolds?
I've seen one film buff I know lament the decision, because RDJ is one of the great character actors of our generation (cf. Oppenheimer) and some see it as a waste of his talents to have him locked into a single role in an action movie franchise for years at a time.I'm a little shocked by all the negativity around Robert Downey Jr. coming back, I thought more people would be happy to have him back.
They might, if the way they got RDJ back was by offering him the chance to challenge himself and play a totally different character. Most actors don't like just doing the same unvarying thing forever. They like to take on new challenges and exercise their craft. I'd imagine RDJ walked away from Stark because he felt he'd done all he could with the role. So I'm not sure just coming back to do a slight variation on the same role would appeal to him. Making himself unrecognizable, creating a totally new character that isn't supposed to be a variant of Tony Stark in-universe, would be a more interesting challenge, and seems more likely to appeal to a performer of his talent.I'm pretty sure they're going to have to have at least on scene where Doom is maskless and recognizable, they're not going to pass up the chance to have the heroes recognize him.
That's grown-up stuff.I’m surprised that nobody has yet noted that RDJ has played 4 totally different characters in his recent Tv show The Sympathiser.
Lulz - it's TRUCK After TRUCK filled with money. For all we know, they're doing it for cheap mostly to hang out with their friends.
But bringing back key members of the old gang won’t come cheap. Sources say Marvel is plunking down $80 million for Anthony and Joe Russo to direct “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” and “significantly more” for Downey to tackle uber-villain Doctor Doom in the two tentpoles.
Evans is definitely not returning to play Cap on a permanent basis. If it happens (it probably will, but I'm less certain now than before) it'll be just for Secret Wars so he can meet a few new Avengers (and FF, etc) and get a good fight scene of both Caps tag teaming on Doom (or someone, at least). Then he'll reiterate his blessing for Sam carrying the shield and fade off back into the multiverse.

Is that REALLy a large contingenicy, or a bunch of outraged people circulating the view of a very small minority.Interesting theory. Still, bringing Evans back to any degree only lends fuel to the "Never Mackie" fire set by some since the passing the shield scene in Endgame and certainly throughout Falcon and the Winter Soldier. That, and the nature of the multiverse would keep the "Bring Back Evans-Cap" cries active. From an in-universe perspective, I believe both Wilson and Barnes have found some sort of closure with Rogers no longer being in their lives (probably dead, if we take Sam's "Steve's gone" line from the streaming series to imply death), and each has redefined themselves in the process to come out of the shadow of Rogers.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, for whom Evans celebrated a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, said in recent interviews that Deadpool & Wolverine is a good example of how to bring back a long-dead Marvel character like Jackman's Logan. Does that make Evans think about bringing Cap back? "No. No, not really," he says.
Evans coming back for any reason would be yet another desperate death rattle for the Superhero film genre.

I don't follow the dates of when these new movies are released, but if Doom is not introduced via the Fantastic Four first, before Avengers, that will confirm in my mind that casting RDJ was indeed just a cash-grab. Doctor Doom doesn't exist without Reed Richards. They are each other's shadow. If the MCU tries to change that, veer away from what's true about the character, RDJ won't really be playing Doom at all. Just one more guy in a metal mask.
