I still find it a bit ridiculous that it's taken this long to finally get a BW movie. One of the biggest mistakes Marvel made was not giving us a BW solo movie during phase 2. I think Scarlett Johanson had already been the lead several hit movies at that point, and people liked the character, so there really was no reason not to do one at that point. If they really didn't want her to lead the movie by herself, for some unclear reason, then they could have always just done a Black Widow/Hawkeye movie.
As for the news about the directors, I've never heard of any of them so I have no preference.
The reason is because the character doesn't lend itself to a trilogy from a storytelling POV, and Phase 1-3 was all about the trilogy franchises.
Black Widow was more of a supporting hero in the MCU, part of Team Cap, alongside Falcon and now Bucky.
I also think these rumblings about a BW solo movie might be an intentional misdirect, in case the character actually dies off in A4.
Captain Marvel is definitely being positioned as Marvel Studio's 'Wonder Woman' instead, and CM is definitely a character that lends itself to a trilogy.
