I still find it a bit ridiculous that it's taken this long to finally get a BW movie. One of the biggest mistakes Marvel made was not giving us a BW solo movie during phase 2. I think Scarlett Johanson had already been the lead several hit movies at that point, and people liked the character, so there really was no reason not to do one at that point. If they really didn't want her to lead the movie by herself, for some unclear reason, then they could have always just done a Black Widow/Hawkeye movie.
It's the MCU. For better or worse, of course it'll be a success.I don't know. After "Lucy" and "Ghost In the Shell" I don't think this will be a success.

That's exactly how sexism works. It makes no sense to blame the failure of a couple of bad movies on their lead actress. Any successful actor will have a few bad movies in their filmography. How many bad action movies has Tom Cruise or Arnold Schwarzenegger or Bruce Willis or Dwayne Johnson made? Yet they keep getting hired to make more movies, some of which are hits. It's a sexist double standard to forgive male action leads for the countless bad movies they make but to cite one or two bad movies as "proof" that a female lead is box-office poison.
With Lucy...well I think it was a bit of the beaten path, and the huge detriment with Ghost in the Shell was that Scarlett was white and not even half Asian, so a huge backlash before filming even started. Black Widow has already proven to be a fan favorite...so there is no doubt of SOME kind of success...not Black Panther level...but not the bottom, especially if written well.I don't know. it's the first MCU movie with a female solo lead
How in the world was Lucy a failure?!? It grossed over ten times its budget! That's, like, smashing success territory.
Most of it was international. (Says Wikipedia; it's probably right, but grain of salt, etc.)Sorry. I was mistaken. I just didn't hear much about it after it debuted. I thought it faded away.
You're forgetting Captain Marvel
