Jonathan Majors was asked by TMZ what he thought about RDJ replacing his character Kang for Dr.Doom. He was also asked about Ezra Miller and RDJ also having trouble with the law.

Key takeaway:

TMZ: "I mean, why do you think that's the case, though?"

Majors: 'Woww!"

Majors knew what the reporter was implying in the question, hence that response quoted above. He was not going to address that on camera, but it's clear he understood what she was asking.

Why Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom payday is inciting backlash

Downey’s massive deal with Marvel likely had something to do with his choice to return to the multiverse. It includes a private jet, a private security team and a “trailer encampment,” per Variety. His enormous payday struck a nerve with some members of the entertainment industry.

"On one hand, good on RDJ for securing the bag of the century. On the other hand, this makes Bob Iger and co proclaiming poverty last year during the strikes more laughable/indefensible. If you can shell out $80M+ for one person, why couldn't you meet SAG's reasonable demands?" https://t.co/8adQohIzNu

— Brandon Lewis 🔜 TIFF 2024 (@blewis1103) July 30, 2024

"Something stupid like half of all regular TV and Film workers are unemployed right now, and those of us who are working have had our rates cut and our hours increased to even more unsafe levels, but RDJ gets $80mil plus whatever else he wants lmao, this industry is so fucked" https://t.co/Qf9fVGQgN8

Tyler Scruggs, who worked as a costume production assistant on the set of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, went viral on X for posting about how little he was paid for the project."I will repeat it until I'm blue in the face... I made $12.50 an hour working 70+ hours a week on Black Panther Wakanda Forever... went up to $14 on Blade v1.0"... https://t.co/ggKTWik5lM

He told Yahoo Entertainment that he’s been keeping track of the backlash he’s received for the post, which now has more than 20 million views, acknowledging that he knows he’s “not Robert Downey Jr.”

“I know he gets butts in seats,” Scruggs said. "Even a low-paying job brought some level of prestige. It looks good on a resume, but I can't eat or pay for my health care. I've never been at such a rock bottom in my life.
As a self-proclaimed “Marvel fanboy,” Scruggs said that the role was “an honor and a dream” at first. Over the last few years, he’s worked on multiple Marvel sets.

“Walking around the offices was like [being part of] a DVD special feature — I’m walking by all these iconic costumes every day with the greatest people in the world to ever do it,” he said. “But it’s hard to get berated over getting a Sweetgreen order wrong … when you’re making $800 per week when [someone else] is making $10,000.”[/i]

Interesting. While its not breaking news that name actors who participated in a big franchise negotiate for larger paydays and other perks, you rarely hear production employees peel back the curtain at this company to be so frank about it and some are struggling.

Yahoo Entertainment has reached out to Marvel for comment and will update this post when we hear back.

I seriously doubt Marvel will issue any sort of reply to the article, and none of Scruggs' recollections and grievances specifically..

It is getting harder and harder to distinguish the fan-made trailers from real ones.

Which is why it's important to read the text underneath the video. Although they really should be required to put a "This is fan art" disclaimer at the beginning or as a watermark throughout the video, and they certainly shouldn't be using the official MCU logo, which is surely trademark infringement. There's a difference between pastiche and deception, and these fan trailers blur it too much.

In this case, the dead giveaway is the claim that Morgan Stark is Ironheart when we know it's Riri Williams -- and it offends me that someone decided they wanted to replace Riri with a white character. It also claims Katherine Langford is "reprising" the role of the grown-up Morgan, a role she only played in a deleted scene from Endgame.

Apparently RDJr's casting as Doom is igniting claims of "whitewashing." Looks like the contention of some people is that some people don't consider Romani people "White" and Dr. Doom should have been played by a Romani person in their opinion.

Wait until these people see Tropic Thunder.

Downey's ethnic background is primarily Jewish. So isn't he "non-white" as well?

Was there any outrage over the casting of McKellen, Olsen, Peters or Taylor-Johnson playing Romani characters? How about the other two guys who played Doom on film? Julian McMahon and Tony Kebbell?

They are going to be in a shock when it's revealed that Doom is a Tony Stark variant.

I don't know. Is he Ashkenazi, Sephardim or Mizrahim? Maybe during the aforementioned Tropic Thunder he was Ethiopian?

Also, IIRC, his father was Jewish but his mother wasn't. Judaism is supposed to pass via the mother so maybe he isn't really Jewish at all.

Besides, we all know his real father is Irish American Morton Downey Jr.

Eh, bigots don't care. ( The Nazis sure didn't). "White" is a funny construct that expands and contracts depending on who is using it.

Oh but when Elizabeth Olsen played a character was supposed to be Half-Jewish Half-Romani, it was fine?

I am impressed with the technical qualities of this fan-made trailer, but I wasn't fooled by it. Why? Because there has never been an official announcement of an Iron Man IV. If Marvel had plans for such a sequel, we all would have heard of it long ago.
