The last drop might not be a superpower battle gone wrong in the vicinity of a kindergarden (the MCU has not established many B or C level superheroes and villains to copy the exact events from the comics) but something similar might happen which prompts Stark to join with the government against Cap and voila.. Civil War.

Based on the just released synopsis, it sounds like the MCU version of the registration act is going to be focused specifically on the Avengers themselves, rather than superheroes in general, which I suppose is a pretty good way to circumvent the commonly cited problem of not yet having enough characters to really portray the story properly.

My money is on some mass release of terragen mist and the inevitable chaos that ensues being the catalyst. If they're determined to replace Mutants with Inhumans then something like this has to happen sooner or later.

I can't see a "civil war" being fought over the world's governments registering the existence of the Avengers. That's redundant. Plus it's more in Cap's nature to come the defence of an emerging minority being persecuted than getting into a massive fight with Starke over what to do with Wanda and perhaps Bruce.

Not about registering their existence, about mandating when they can and can't act. Possibly even trying to bring them directly under govt. control.

Sounds like they'd be working in elements from the late 70s storyline in which Henry Peter Gyrich was micromanaging the Avengers on behalf of the U.S. government.

Light bulb: Could Martin Freeman be playing Gyrich?

Saw Age Of Ultron last evening...
Since apparently Fury is still retired from Shield it looks like he has become the Director of the Avengers facility...

That could be the main storyline of next season's Agents of SHIELD. Build to the release of the mist, and then Civil War mentions the appearance of more and more enhanced individuals.

I like the idea that a high-profile super-group that's considered vital to world security would have a support staff, rather than just meeting in their secret clubhouse with the odd mascot or butler around.

Makes more sense too...
And since Shield is still in disgrace the people are not working for Shield but for the Avengers Initiative, though with some things it's probably a rose by another name...

This may be a case where it was such a minor character in such a minor usage and so early on that Marvel didn't protest, but rights to such characters are usually rooted in where they appeared first, even if they're more often associated with another property.

The MCU versions of TWS and AOU are not the exact same as the stories in the comics, so who knows how CW will end in the MCU?!?
My main issue with them killing Cap is whether or not Bucky would take over. I don't really think Bucky has been established as a hero long enough to have him take over. I could maybe see them going with the current Cap, The Falcon, though.

Well, to be fair, Bucky is probably better established than the Falcon. Maybe not as a hero, but as a character we've seen more of Bucky even just in TWS then we saw of Falcon. I guess as a heroic replacement Falcon would make more sense, though. I'd hope he'd get a bit more character development first if it ever came to having to replace Cap, though.

Again, they might not kill Cap...
In the movies it won't have the same impact as it did in the comics...

I don't know about that. Cap is pretty popular these days. Honestly I hear more people talking about Cap than Iron Man (and wearing more Cap merchandise) now.

I feel like you have to give his story with Bucky at least one more movie to come to a more satisfying end. Unless that story is going to be sandwiched inside Civil War, I think Steve is probably safe 'til his next stand-alone. Evans has a 6 picture deal(assuming it hasn't been expanded since) and if I'm not mistaken Civil War will only be #5 of that. I suppose he might meet his end in Infinity War Part I, to end the movie on an appropriately dramatic down note.

Technically he appeared in Thor 2, not as Cap, but as a disguised Loki, but still.
So you could argue he already did 5 movies and Civil War will be number 6. ;)

^ not sure if it's just a joke or whatever, but just for the record Evans has said previously that his cameo in Thor 2 didn't count towards his 6-picture deal
