Adopted, I assume? That would almost certainly have to be the case if the MCU goes that route anyway.

Actually, no. Classic Nick had a one-night stand in Czechoslovakia with a fellow CIA agent back in his spy days, when taking down a Hydra cell. When he found out she was pregnant, he talked the mother (Nia Jones) into retiring and becoming a school teacher in Atlanta. Not sure how 'Marcus Johnson' would've found out about his heritage in the MCU, but one can imagine Daddy kept an eye on him (heh heh), saw him following in his military footsteps and pulled some strings to get him into SHIELD.

And in other MCU news, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 soundtrack list has been released and can be listened to on Spotify.

A good collection of songs that I know and love and those I've never heard of. I'm especially happy to see Florence + the Machine's "Dog Days Are Over" included.

I knew Guardians 3 would have an awful soundtrack, especially after the zune thing. Oh well, two decent soundtracks in a row is more then most movies that use pre-existing songs get nowadays, hopefully GotG V3 uses the music less then the other two did to compensate for the terrible tracklist. Nothing worse then a movie that uses a lot of crappy music constantly, I forsee a lot of moments in GotG V3 ruined by the crappy music.

So you know all of those songs and/or listened to all of them already?

Impressive. I only knew a handful of them. One of the joys of these soundtracks is discovering songs I hadnt heard before, including those I should've already.

The songs or the style of many of the new songs are all stuff I hate, which I'll freely admit is just my opinion. Outside of Weird Al, a few youtube musicians, and Disney animated musicals, I am mostly a classic rock type guy, who hates basically everything made after the 80s (I was born in 1990 but really can only stand music made before I was born). Thats not to say all old music is good obviously, some of the bad bands in GotG v3 are pre-90s bands/songs, but GotG 1 & 2 didn't have any songs I hated, even if I didn't absolutely love all of the songs in those movies.

To answer your question more directly, I have listened or partially listened to the songs I wasn't already familiar with on Youtube. The songs from Faith No More, Radiohead and Spacehog are especially fucking awful, but the only halfway decent songs are the ones from Heart and Earth Wind and Fire. The Beastie Boys are also back to try to ruin scenes in another Sci Fi film, although at least GotG won't pretend that people will be listening to that shit centuries from now.

I've always thought that music taste was the most subjective opinion someone can have, even more then what Food you like or what TV/Films you enjoy, and this is no different. To use another superhero film as an example, I dock points off of Into the Spiderverse for its irritating soundtrack, and it uses music less then Gunn does in the GotG movies. I'm sure the film will be good overall, I'll just either have to cover my ears at times, or wait until its on D+/Home video so I can use the mute button.

touche! :guffaw:

Also, they've been back to Earth more than once at this point, so it's not like he can't just get new music.
Sure, but I was looking at it from a real world perspective, and I thought pretty much all of the preexisting music from the first two was at least pre-2000.

I think that evolution of the soundtrack is meant to reflect some of the subtext of Peter's character growth. In the first movie he only had that one mixtape because he was still trapped in the past, unable to move past his mother's death. At the end of the movie he's finally able to confront his feelings and opens himself up to new experiences . . . and gets a new mixtape that he'd had the whole time and didn't even realise it. After the second movie, he's moving beyond the legacy of either of his parents and defining himself on his own terms . . . and gets some tracks made after '88 to see what he's been missing out on.

I hadn't looked at it that way, but that makes a lot of sense.
