Didn't they just effectively try to put the kibosh on these unsubstantiated Ms. Marvel rumors...?

Is it more likely that a Carol Danvers movie would have her as "Ms. Marvel" or "Captain Marvel"?

I'd say 'Ms. Marvel' is more likely since if they're going to make a run at a (hopefully not crap) female superhero movie then they'll want to toot that horn as loud as possible. Also, there might be some concern over it sounding like a derivative of Captain America.

For the sake of argument: even if they do that, I hope that in the movie itself they never address her as such, but instead call her "Captain Marvel". Like if they do the whole fighter pilot origin thing then perhaps she's an actual Captain in rank and "Marvel" is her callsign, thus: Captain Carol "Marvel" Danvers can easily be shortened to "Captain Marvel". They could easily hold off even calling her that until right before the credits role as was done with Iron Man.
IMO that's better than her name being a derivative of some other hero ala Batgirl/Supergirl.

Don't think so. The closest I remember was a question about whether they'd change their plans in response to a backlash from fans for not having a female lead. The response was they would not change their plans. But they didn't say what their plans were.

I don't recall any other comments one way or the other except that Ms. Marvel is a movie they've been looking into for a long time but would have to wait for the timing to be right.

If they did a Black Widow film, I wonder if they'd pull a Cap 2 and make Hawkeye a major supporting character (like bW was in Cap 2). It would make sense, and it would give Hawkeye some more screen time, which would be nice. I don't think we'll see a BW movie, but I think it would be cool.

I would have hoped that Hawkeye could guest star on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to fill in the gaps in his life between The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron given the implications of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

That would be interesting, but he's probably too big a star to do that. An episode or two with Hawkeye actually the focus (and not justa cameo) would be very interesting, but I don't see Renner doing it. AoS got lucky that Samuel L. Jackson just seems to have fun playing Fury, and is willing to do stuff like TV, so they got him for the finale. I don't think we'll ever see any of the big Avengers even make small cameos in AoS.

I was surprised that we didn't even get a Hawkeye cameo in Cap 2. I'm not a huge hawkeye fan, but I like the character and it would be nice if they could flesh him out a bit.

Throw in the Winter Soldier (and an Agents of Shield cast member, why not) and they could make a neat Russian espionage flick.

It depends on how they do it. It would need to be somewhat superheroish, not just straight up spying. If they wanted to go into a BW story in Russia, maybe it could be BW leading a team to stop some group (maybe a Russian branch of AIM or Hydra, since they probably wouldn't be willing to make it a Russian government thing) from making the Crimson Dynamo. They'd get a decent villain, and it would make sense that no one would want more people to have Iron Man like suits. I think they could do it well, although some might claim they'd need Iron man involved in a Crimson Dynamo story (which I don't think would be needed, but you could argue the point).

They could also maybe have her try to get back some alien tech, and run into the Winter Guard and their handlers (probably a shadowy, rogue part of the Russian government). That would give them villains (who might not strictly be evil), they could add a connection to Winter Soldier if they wanted (maybe he was used to train some of them), and they could even take a page out of the comics and have the WG lead by the Red Guardian, and make him someone BW knew in the past. Also, it would be awesome to see BW, Hawkeye and/or Winter Soldier fight a guy who transforms into a bear

It would be as Captain Marvel. The company is trying to rebrand her as that, and as a title it sounds cooler and is more gender-neutral (and there's no way they won't be thinking about that when marketing a female superhero movie).

Red Guardian would be neat but it would also be cool if they throw Emil Blonsky in the mix. He is a Russian born citizen and the recent outing of Shield/Hydra and their involvement in the creation of the Abomination, they may have a claim on him. Shield did give Blonsky's unit the location of Hulk's blood, if they knew it or not. Throw in a werebear, Winter Soldier in a back-story figuring out his past that crossed path with Black Widow, and Grant Ward trying to be a hero (he does have a Russian cover he might be using) and you'll have a Marvelous movie.

Blonsky would fit, but wouldn't a Hulk-Level powerhouse be a bit overkill? Besides the fact that it would overshadow the bear (;)) Hulk was barely able to stop Blonsky. While he'd fit the theme, I think just the Winter Guard people might work better when you consider who Black Widow would be bringing to the fight. Plus, I think the big climatic fight would be cooler with it was maybe more team on team fight, without bringing in a guy who is as powerful as Blonsky. Honestly, I just want to see the Winter Guard vs. BW & friends in an epic throw down finale. I have a feeling that they'd have to get pretty tech oriented to defeat Abomination without the Hulk's help. I guess I'm just imagining a big knockdown fight, kind of like the end of X-Men 3 or First Class, where its more of a team event then focused on one huge monster threat.

Assume a HYDRA infiltration of a legitimate Russian project - say the suggestions for the backstories of their Winter Guard characters? - and work it from there.

Why though? The comic is essentially a straight up spy story, and it's working extremely well. I think they could get away with having Black Widow in an action/espionage type story. The whole point of having a variety of titles is to have a variety of stories. Guardians of the Galaxy is going to be more of a Star Wars type science fiction adventure and I've a feeling that one will turn out OK.

I think the Ms. Marvel thing is wishful thinking, but they'd be stupid not to do a Black Widow film at this point, assuming ScarJo is interested.

^I think Marvel is waiting to see how her newest flick turns out before they make her the main focus or not.

Joss Whedon just ducked a Captain/Ms. Marvel question. He did say there are four prominent female roles, though, in AoU.

^Black Widow, Agent 13, Maria Hill, and Betty Ross?

Well, with what we know of Age of Ultron, I'd say Scarlet Witch is probably one of the roles, along with Black Widow and probably maria Hill. I can't really guess what the fourth oine would be, though.
