He already did a tiny little bit. Dick Hallorann is mentioned briefly in the novel "IT", which is why he's in "Welcome to Derry". (In an expanded role.)
Who knows, maybe he will revisit him at some point. Perhaps when he's sick of writing Holly Gibney stories.
It's been a few decades since I read it, but it doesn't surprise as King is fond of dropping Easter Eggs throughout his novels going back to the 70s. Derry itself pops up a few times.
