Marvel All New, All Different - Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Marvel owes nearly as much to Claremont and what he did with the X-Men as it owes to Stan Lee himself.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

I still have dreams about walking into my local with a thousand dollars and going balls deep.

While nowhere near a thousand dollars, a guy in front of me at the Comic Book Shop a while back dropped 200 dollars on a huge stack of comics. As he was leaving the store he was muttering: "The wife is gonna kill me."

The sacrifices we make to satisfy are habit.

I used to work in a comic shop.

Once a year the public Library showed up with a grand and a %30 off voucher.

They should have brought a wheelborrow.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Well, it seems from what I can gather that early 2000s X-Men was not good, aside from Morrison and Whedon. And I definitely don't want to deal with anything from Claremont.

Actually you do. Claremont's run is by far the best run on UXM.

Don't fucking do that. I know about everyone's love for Claremont's X-Men. Don't give a shit.

You didn't go back far enough.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Fist said that he didn't like Claremont, and then you corrected him explaining that he was wrong, and that he did like Claremont.

Substitute the word Claremont with the word "cock" and see if that makes even less sense.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

I'm not that interested in this GOTG/X-Men crossover Black Vortex so far...

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Well, my one condition for buying "Spider-Verse" was that May-Day make it through in one piece. Now, the story is over, and this preview (potential spoilers for May-Day fans at the link) of the epilogue issue shows that conditions were met. Pre-ordered.

All this...

Collecting: AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (2014) #7-15, SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #32-33, SPIDER-VERSE #1-2, SPIDER-VERSE TEAM-UP #1-3, SCARLET SPIDERS #1-3, SPIDER-WOMAN (2014) #1-4, SPIDER-MAN 2099 (2014) #6-8 and material from FREE COMIC BOOK DAY 2014 (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY) #1

624 pages!!

So, it seems that I won't be disappointed in May-Day's role in the story. I was afraid she would be seen in a couple of panels and ignored, but I gather that she was rather prominent and important.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

^ I never thought that Slott would kill off May Day, not to mention she will be I believe a character in the "Secret Wars: Spider'Verse" mini-series and part of Battleworld.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

i was afraid she would be killed off too.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

From the new solicits it seems Hulk wise we're getting the Maestro against Doc Green and what seems to be the Savage Hulk (Well, a green Hulk with messy hair and ripped purple pants, at least). I wonder if that'll fit into Secret Wars, or if this is the Maestro from Future Imperfect that was last seen in Peter David's run having regenerated and taking over Thor villain the Destroyer (Although alternate Maestros, or Maestros before Future Imperfect's events, have also appeared several times). Then of course the whole thing about Doc Green possibly becoming the Maestro, which might suggest the battle takes place in Hulk's brain against the different personas- I wouldn't mind cameos from "Joe Fixit/The Gray Hulk" for instance)

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Why does Miguel think that the Maestro's time line has dominated Marvel 2099?

Did I miss an annual?

I wanted one character to survive and be finally brought back into the fold as well.....
Ben Reilly, the original 90's Scarlet Spider clone(or not)
.
However, with Battleworld upon us maybe there is yet hope.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Peter David confirmed on CBR earlier in the week that the Maestro in 2099 is indeed the Future Imperfect Maestro. He also stated that he will be writing him in a future project which Bleeding Cool suggested would be most likely "Secret Wars: Future Imperfect".

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Amazing Spider-Man #15: Spider-Verse Epilogue: this issue actually managed to cover most of my complaints about the finale. It wasn't a perfect storyline, mainly for the way Peter disappeared as a character for the whole thing, but I enjoyed it.

New Avengers #30: another fascinating issue chock full of big concepts and horrific events. Lovin' it.

Uncanny Avengers #2: this relaunch is terrible so far. really disappointing.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Well, it seems from what I can gather that early 2000s X-Men was not good, aside from Morrison and Whedon. And I definitely don't want to deal with anything from Claremont. So is there a better place pre-Bendis to pick up the story?

Since the mid-2000s, there have been several jumping-on points, but none have led to the kind of consistency of tone (and, to an extent, quality) that Bendis has brought to the titles. The Marvel Wiki entry for Avengers vs. X-Men is probably all that you need to read to follow Bendis' titles.

For a full picture, you would probably want to read the following:

X-23 (Vol. 1) 1-6
X-23: Target X 1-6
House of M 1-8
X-Men: Deadly Genesis
Uncanny X-Men 466-468*, 475-491**
New X-Men (Vol. 2) 20-43**
X-Factor (Vol. 2) 1-6
X-Men (Vol. 2) 188-206**

*Claremont, but relevant and unusually good
**Concurrent from New X-Men #28 onward.

Then read the Messiah Complex crossover, followed by the core titles*** (Uncanny X-Men and, for a time, X-Force) through Avengers vs. X-Men, which immediately preceded Bendis.

*** Cable (Vol. 2), the Pixies and Demons one-shot, X-Infernus, and Young X-Men are optional.

If you read nothing else, the two X-23 miniseries and New X-Men 20-43 (a slow burn that features great Skottie Young art at the end), all written by Craig Kyle and Chris Yost, are probably the best work to come out of the X-Men in the 2000s.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

New Avengers #31... another jaw dropping game changer...

RABUM ALAL REVEALED!

AND IT'S DOCTOR DOOM!

In retrospect it's so obvious, and yet it's another amazing twist. I guess he went back in time with his new found powers since this crisis began before he knew it happened. But oh man I can't wait to see the back story on this one!

This is yet another shocking step into darkness for a major character. I don't see how they're going to forgive or hand wave across the recent actions of Doom, Namor, Mr Fantastic, Iron Man, etc, etc, etc... what an incredible story!

I think I'm confusing myself now. Did we learn that the Beyonders / Ivory Kings are actually responsible for the death of the Multiverse? Because initially we were told Rabum Alal was doing it.
