I'm all for changing the uniforms... and the rank pips on the badge? Does anyone really like that idea?

because this is iconic:

i think they should do something like they did with the kelvin uniforms: not black trousers, just darker trousers.
It's probably best that they get rid of the flip phone communicator. It's clunky and they have proven they have the capability of fitting a communication device within the badge. It's inappropriately teasing the fans into thinking they are trying to make it resemble the 23rd century. Except for the general shape of the phaser and the communicator it doesn't resemble anything from the original series.

erm. well. in 90 years they can.

but for now hand-held, ship-to-ship and (in the kelvin timeline anyway) interstellar communication must apparently be accomplished through the use of a clunky flip phone communicator (with antenna). or something.

Exactly. I really don't get the point of these threads. I would rather focus on substantial things like writing and characterization instead of such minutiae.

Kor

But inevitable when CBS decided to try to cram this into the Prime universe.

Do you see the odd one out? If you guessed the Discovery and Shenzhou's warp drive shown on the upper right you'd be right.

Something is very different there. We can see the stars are flying past them much faster and there's all sorts of distortions. The stars flying past quickly remind me of the Voth's transwarp drive technology and the distortions remind me of slipstream technology as shown below.

Which might seem out of the ordinary to suggest starfleet possesses this type of technology but is it any more unusual than the spore drive technology that allows them to teleport anywhere in the universe? So why does warp drive in Star Trek Discovery look so different?
