mark May 17 2013 down on your calendars

I just thought JJ had more class than that.
Anyway, hopefully there will be a couple of cinemas who'll offer 2D showings

*Shrug* If I'm still alive by then, sure. Who knows what'll happen in a year and a half?

BTW, LOL @ "Dr Spock star fleet movies."

3D? I think this might be Paramount's idea. :rommie:

That would be my guess. There are still theaters showing 2D and so since I have eye problems that make it impossible for me to see 3D movies I will watch it in 2D.

3D reeks of gimmickery to me, but, aside from some silly moments where objects are obviously thrown "into" the camera (usually in slow motion), it's not a distraction when rewatching the movies in 2D on DVD - and that's where I'm gonna be seeing it the other 998 times.

3D? Yuck. A waste of time and money. I'll be sticking to the 2D version, if I can.

(I know, I know, I'm a curmudgeon).

Glad there's a release date, though.

You don't need to be a curmudgeon to hate 3-D. Don't believe the hype - the only reason the box office is so strong on 3-D is because people pay more to see them. The percentage of people I know who either don't go to the (big) movies anymore or actively avoid 3-D showings when possible currently sits at 100%. And I'm the only curmudgeon among them.

However, considering Abrams I thought had said he wouldn't be making Trek 12 in 3-D, my enthusiasm for the movie just plummeted to nil.

I dislike 3D also. But I think your interest in the movie may rise as filming progresses and news leaks out!
