mark May 17 2013 down on your calendars

Can't wait it's going to a long wait until May 17th 2013 and 3D. !!! I went to IMAX to see the 1st film and it blew me away !!!!

Being totally blind in one eye, I'll be skipping the 3D edition. Hopefully it'll be available to view in 2D.

Finally, a release date which appears set in stone. Hope it remains solid...

I am torn on the 3D issue. To its credit it is being filmed in 3D, much preferred over the 'added later' type, though I am not sure that when it comes to 'live action 3D' either version is really better than the other. CGI 3D seems better than and live action 3D, to me. Suspension is already totally suspended so why not add another layer?

I'll see the 2D version first then play along with the gimmicks if I like the film.

Nice. Hopefully the Australian release date is a day before it. I know what I'll be seeing on that Thursday night.

Oh cool, it looks like Paramount is trying to increase interest overseas grosses by filming in 3D. They have to do something about that. It'll be fun watching a ST movie in 3D at least once.

Of course it will be in 3D.

There was never any real question of that.

There's no reason to make this kind of movie at this kind of budget unless you're trying to make scads of money.

Don't believe the hype - the only reason the box office is so strong on 3-D is because people pay more to see them.

Duh. Which part of that is not basic market economics?

2013? :( Long way to go, though at least we have the confirmed date :) 3D doesn't bother me (only had a problem with 3D for the early bits of Thor and that was it) and if it's being filmed in 3D it shouldn't look too shabby :)

I'm really glad they are taking their time with this next movie. In my opinion, the 2009 film could have used some edits, if the strike had not been on, so I like that those involved are taking their time... also, by the time the film comes out, Pine will be close to how old Kirk actually was in the first season of TOS, I think, so he won't seem like such a young cadet-captain anymore ...

Technically, this is 4 years after the last movie and the original series only lasted 3 seasons so continuity wise, this would place the storyline in season 4, which we as fans never got to see. Can we assume that the first 3 years of the 5 year mission of AbramsTrek were similar or the same as TOS. Of course, the timeline change might have thrown a few things off, but theoretically I think you can make the arguments that most of the events of the original TOS timeline probably unfolded in much the same way.
