Mario Maker

They announced some updates today. We're getting checkpoints and progressive powerups! I will need to go re-edit a few of my stages.

I'm still waiting for a world map and secret exits like in Super Mario World. Adding three Star Coins to collect in each level would be pretty cool too. And those Star Coins could be used to unlock secret bonus levels. Oh, and maybe some cutscene tools to construct a limited narrative connecting the levels?

But checkpoints are cool too. It's a much needed feature.

I wouldn't want star coins to unlock anything outside the level. The thing I dislike most about newer Mario games is the need to play the game jumping into every wall and ground pounding every inch of the ground because you need every single star coin to get the the levels that are actually hard. I find that rather tedious.

But world maps and secret exits would be awesome.

The things I want most are:
-Vertical levels (Hopefully with rising lava option)
-Water tiles that don't make the entire level water
-The ability to encase things in ice
-Hammer suit
-SMB2 style pick up/throw physics

Though I suppose a better search engine and ability to filter and customize 100 Mario Challenge would be the most welcome feature. If I could find a way to get hard levels that don't knock you into pits with invisible blocks or give you doors over lava, that would be awesome.

Cool! That would be great. Closest we have is in Super Mario World so far.

It would be nice to have platforms that can move up and down like they do in underground levels in SMB. Level 1-2, I'm talking to you. :p

I've been working on this one for the better part of a week, just now cleared it. It's pretty hard. It's an entry for a Super Mario Maker contest for Halloween.

Title: I can see clearly now
Theme: Super Mario Bros
Difficulty: Hard
Level ID: 73E4-0000-00D0-BBF4
Description: A haunted above ground level with a spooky haunted house below, beware of those who dwell inside.

Just got done with a new one tonight :). One that my mom gave me the idea for. An intestines based level.

Title: Go With The Flow
Theme: Super Mario Bros 3
Difficulty: Medium/Hard
Level ID: F627-0000-00D8-B5F3
Description: A water level that's a Magic School Bus like journey, with an above ground sub level.

When they added the checkpoint patch they fixed the invisible block glitch. Boo! That wasn't a bug, it was a feature!

Just got done with a new one! Took quite a bit to clear though. This one is for a contest about separate environments.

Title: Split personalities
Theme: Super Mario Bros
Difficulty: Medium/Hard
Level ID: 30E9-0000-00EF-B053
Description: An above ground and below ground journey through various different environments.

I played some more yesterday after a long absence. Is it me or is the level design improving? I felt like out of all the levels I played only maybe one or two were really terrible. Also I like that new category of level designers they added, not having the game in front of me I want to say it was called "Professional designers" or something like that? Anyways, those levels were really well done.

School ends for me in a few weeks and I'm currently on Thanksgiving break, so I may look into making another level, we got checkpoints now I hear?

I haven't played in a few weeks. It could be that all the people making terrible half assed levels got bored of it so the percentage of good levels increased. Maybe I'll go check on my levels and see if expert mode has improved.

Thanks for the heads up! Gotta purchase a Y cable tomorrow from Amazon hopefully so I can start using my new WD drive for my Wii U. Have to free up some space for updates.

We all are little children..) When we become adults the interests of little girls plays with dolls when they are small and when growth they would like to have cars. And the men who played toy cars in their childhood would like to play with dolls..))

I've gotten back into this recently. I'm having a lot of fun with hit, though I don't see that many levels incorporating checkpoints as you'd think there'd be.

I recently uploaded a level, I don't have the code on me but I'll post it here if you all are interested in playing it, I think it's one of the best levels I've made so far.

Edit: Here's the course ID for anyone who's interested, DE61-0000-01F3-D00B

Anybody have their levels deleted? I had one just a day ago go away because it had 0 stars and no one beat it. Plenty of people played it, just no one went more than half way. They gave up. It wasn't that hard. Level had been online for about a month. That's ridiculous, in my opinion.

Now, I can't just reupload the level. I have to recreate it from scratch to get it back up. And then, hope for the best. Way to stifle creativity, Nintendo.

Yea it sucks. I hope that this time it gets starred. Post it up here and I'll give it a shot.

I had a surge of interest last month, I even made a few levels I was really proud of. Barely anyone played them, and only a quarter of those who did bothered to star them. So I kind of lost interest in it, I don't feel like I'm necessarily making bad levels, I make levels that I would find interesting.

Normally this would be the part where I put my level codes up so you guys can see for yourself, but I'm nowhere near my WiiU, maybe if I think about it later I'll post some for you guys to see.
