March 2017 challenge: Honor Those That Came Before

I am kinda torn between two fanon ships i was thinking of updating; i suppose i should just focus on one ship for the entry.
One per player, and only 10 days...

So to make sure I'm understanding this right, a redesign of a ship from the original FJ Tech manual which never appeared onscreen is legal fodder?

Nope, and why is a bit sticky; All 4/5 ship designs Franz Joseph had in his SFTM, were used on-screen, but not named clearly, so they are now canon.

That depends on whether you count being barely glimpsed on background bridge displays as being "on screen". Personally I wouldn't, and would say they are fair game.

I wasn't stating my opinion, which is they should be 100% canon. I was stating CBS' stated ruling, which is that ships of those design were actual Starfleet ships in service, so the Design is canon, but the class names and other data are not.
As that carefully worded statement makes it a murky grey area for myself and other fans, I would presume the designs are canon by the contest's stated rules; unless the contest sponsor says otherwise for these ships.

Very grey area yes. However, in this matter it is my opinion that something only used as background image isn't canon for the rules. We could barely see them in the first place.

Thank you, good sir!
That is good to know and I for one, am happy that my supposition was not correct in this case. Klaus, I eagerly look forward to your reimagining!! (ReImagineering?)

I might be late but here is my Entry @Ptrope *Edit: Franz Joseph's design is "NOT" canon!*

I'm sorry to report that I don't have an entry for this art challenge, and I very much doubt I'll cobble anything together in the next couple of days. Time and my imagination have escaped me. Plus, I've been otherwise occupied with a load of needy, whiny Redshirts...
Still, the designs I've seen you all come up with are far superior to anything I might have mustered.

Is the correct email for Ptrope info --@t- ptrope - dot- com?
Or is there a different one? Just want to be sure I send it to the right place.

Not quite, it's ptrope *at* gmail *dot* com.
So we have to email Ptrope for our entry???
Yes, to be sure he gets your entry, instead of him having to search and find all the different threads in which people posted their entries.

I thought the point of posting entries in the original thread (like this one) was for the people who, for whatever reason, didn't mail it in.
