Man, the special FX for Star Trek 2009 hold up perfectly 12 years later!

They made fun of the flares in the 2017 German comedy Bullyparade
Kork told Schrotty to turn off the lens flare, he said "Aye Sir, lens flare off", and everybody sighed and relaxed XD

"I've got it. Turn off the lens flare generators."
Spock: "Fascinating."

I never found it that distracting but apparently it's a problem...

It mainly seemed to be a problem for the clipboard-and-checklist people laser-focused on Finding Things To Have A Problem With And Then Shouting A Lot About It, and they started ramping up their racket back when all anyone had to look at were a few stills and a couple of trailers. Months later, it was still the same song and dance, only they were adding disclaimers about "sticking it to TPTB" by refusing to buy tickets and only watching poor-quality phonecam-pirated DVDs of the film.

I don't recall many people who actually went to the theater and watched the movie reporting that they'd had much issue with the lens flares.
